Chandler Jones Fantasy Football News 2018

New Cardinals HC Steve Wilks confirmed Tuesday his team will be switching to a 4-3 base defense this season, according to Kent Somers of the Arizona Republic. Wilks reportedly said a key factor in the change is allowing edge guys Chandler Jones and Markus Golden to rush the passer every down. That's the big news here for IDP owners as well. The switch should mean that we'll get DE designations for Jones and Golden in fantasy football leagues in 2018, which would dramatically increase their value. Jones, of course, led the NFL with 17 sacks last season and is no secret as a top pass rusher. Golden much more quietly racked up 12.5 sacks, 16 total tackles for loss and 22 total QB hits in 2016 before missing most of last season with a torn right ACL. He'll be a solid shot to take late in IDP drafts this summer -- especially if he gets that DL designation.

The Patriots on Tuesday traded DE Chandler Jones to the Cardinals for G Jonathan Cooper and a 2nd-round draft pick. Jones figures to play a 3-4 OLB spot for the Cardinals, which will hurt his IDP value wherever his designation changes. New England can start Jabaal Sheard and Rob Ninkovich on the edges and drafted DEs Geneo Grissom (3rd round) and Trey Flowers (4th) last year. The Pats also had free agent Chris Long in for a visit Monday. Adding Jones can only help an Arizona D that was already good for fantasy with a poor pass rush last season.

The Patriots will have DE Chandler Jones (abdomen, toe), LB Jamie Collins (back), LB Dont'a Hightower (knee) and DE Rob Ninkovich (shin) active for today's AFC Championship game at Denver. All carried "questionable" tags, but Collins was the only iffy player after suffering his injury in the win over the Chiefs. That situation adds risk to him as an IDP play in fantasy football lineups this weekend. Jones also played a more limited role last week than usual and is more boom/bust than when at full health. The New England defense carries lots of turnover upside, however, against a Denver offense that threw the league's most INTs this year.

The Patriots list LB Jamie Collins (back), LB Dont'a Hightower (knee), DE Chandler Jones (abdomen, toe) and DE Rob Ninkovich (shin) as questionable for Sunday's game in Denver. Ninkovich and Hightower played through their issues for regular snaps last week and should be just fine for the game. Collins suffered his injury against the Chiefs but is expected to play. Jones played through his issues last week as well but in a more limited role than usual. He's not a good IDP option. We'll check on the status for all before Sunday's game, but the Patriots defense carries plenty of upside against a Denver team that threw the league's most INTs during the regular season.

Patriots DE Chandler Jones had to go to the hospital Saturday after overdosing on unspecified pills, according to Chris Curtis of WEEI in Boston. The nature of the pills could lead to issues with the league. We'll see where that goes. We'll assume that Jones will be ready for Saturday's game against the Chiefs unless we hear otherwise.

The New England defense could be missing some key pieces at Miami on Sunday. The Patriots have ruled out DE Chandler Jones (toe) and LB Dont'a Hightower (knee) and deemed DE Rob Ninkovich (shin) questionable. Ninkovich only practiced Thursday this week. The moves make DE Jabaal Sheard the best IDP bet on the New England D-line and chip away at the defense's upside. The matchup with a reeling Dolphins offense keeps the Patriots among the most attractive fantasy targets for the week, though. Safeties Patrick Chung (foot) and Devin McCourty (ankle) are also questionable after missing last week's loss to the Jets.

Patriots DE Chandler Jones has been seen on crutches recently as he rehabs from post-Super Bowl surgery, according to ESPN Boston. We haven't seen details on the procedure, but those close to Jones reportedly say there's no long-term concern. Jones lost 6 games last year to a hip injury. We'll keep an eye on his status once on-field workouts begin.

As expected, the Patriots will have DE Chandler Jones, DE Rob Ninkovich and LB Dont'a Hightower available for today's game against the Jets. All entered the day as questionable but played full roles last week with their current issues. All look good for IDP use today.

The Patriots will welcome DE Chandler Jones back to the lineup today. He's active after missing 6 games with a hip injury. He still has yet to put in a full practice, however, and makes for a risk-reward fantasy play. You'll need to figure out how much risk you're comfy with. LB Dont'a Hightower is also active after sitting out last week with a shoulder injury. He's fine to use in your IDP lineup. And DE Rob Ninkovich is active -- as expected -- after a heel injury limited his practice time all week.

The Patriots on Friday listed 3 key fantasy defenders as questionable for Sunday's game against the Dolphins. DE Chandler Jones put in 3 limited practice days once again as he works back from a hip injury that cost him 6 games. The fact that he has yet to put in a full practice makes Jones a highly risky IDP option even if he finally returns to game action. There is upside against a struggling Dolphins O-line if you're willing to take the risk, though. LB Dont'a Hightower is questionable for the 2nd straight week because of a shoulder injury that kept him out in Week 14. We'd bet on Hightower playing after he took part in practice all 3 days. DE Rob Ninkovich also put in 3 limited practices while dealing with a heel injury. We've seen no indication that it's anything serious, but the Pats still might be the league's most secretive team with injuries. We'll update the statuses for all 3 on Sunday morning.

The Patriots on Friday listed LB Dont'a Hightower and DE Chandler Jones questionable for Sunday night's game at San Diego. Hightower put in limited practices each day with a shoulder injury, which would seem to suggest that he'll play. Jones also participated on a limited basis every day but still has yet to see a full practice since returning to action last week from his hip injury. He's certainly not an IDP option yet. We'll see if he gets onto the field Sunday night. If you're counting on Hightower in your fantasy football lineup, check our Week 14 LB rankings for potential insurance options among the Patriots, Chargers, Packers or Falcons.

Patriots DE Chandler Jones will miss today's game at Green Bay, not a surprise considering that he still has yet to put in a full practice since his mid-October hip injury. Jones did return to limited workouts this week, carried a "questionable" tag into the weekend and traveled with the team. That all suggests he should be ready to play Week 14. It'll be tough to use him right away in IDP leagues without knowing how big a role he'll play in the defense, but full workouts during the week would at least make him an upside option in deeper leagues.

Patriots DE Chandler Jones returned to limited practice this week for the 1st time since suffering a hip injury on Oct. 16. He's officially questionable for Sunday's game at Green Bay and traveled with the team. ESPN Boston's Mike Reiss writes, however, that "it would be a surprise" if Jones actually plays before putting in any full practices.

The Boston Herald reports that the Patriots believe DE Chandler Jones will miss at least 6 weeks with his hip injury and fear that he may need to sit out the rest of the regular season. IDP owners in deep leagues could hold out for a little while to make sure that's the case, but everyone should be making alternate plans at D-line for the rest of the year.

Patriots DE/OLB Chandler Jones will miss the next month because of a hip injury, according to the Boston Globe. Jones apparently suffered the injury in the 2nd quarter but played through it, missing just 3 snaps for the game. New England previous played rookie DL Dominique Easley in Jones' end spot when Jones was limited by a shoulder injury. The team also traded for Titans LB Akeem Ayers on Tuesday, a player who fits the 3-4 OLB role that Jones has also seen more of this year. Neither presents anything near the IDP scoring potential of Jones. Look for the Patriots to get more creative with their blitzing, which could mean a few more chances for LBs Dont'a Hightower and Jamie Collins. Jones' absence -- more than that of ILB Jerod Mayo -- can only hurt the team D for fantasy football purposes.

Patriots LB Dont'a Hightower is active for tonight's clash with the Jets after missing the past 2 games with a knee injury.  He put in more practice time this week and seemed to be building toward a return.  We'll be interested to see what Hightower's role looks like in the wake of MLB Jerod Mayo's season-ending injury.  It would be safer to wait a week before putting Hightower back into IDP lineups, though.  Patriots LB Jamie Collins and DE Chandler Jones are also active against the Jets despite carrying "questionable" tags into Thursday night.  Each had played through his injury previously, though, and was expected to go.  Jones and Collins each look like fine IDP options for your Week 7 lineup -- especially Jones, who put up big numbers in each meeting with the Jets last year.
