The Bears have claimed K Roberto Aguayo. We'll see if the 2016 2nd-rounder can figure things out in Chicago, where he'll compete with K Connor Barth for a job. It's a situation to avoid in fantasy drafts right now.
The Bucs have released K Robert Aguayo -- just a little more than a year after spending a 2nd-round pick on him. Aguayo connected on just 71% of his FG attempts and missed a pair of XPs as a rookie. Then he missed a FG and an XP in Friday's preseason opener. Nick Folk is now in line to handle kicking duties in Tampa this season.
The Bucs have signed K Nick Folk. He'll compete for the starting job with K Roberto Aguayo, who's coming off a disappointing rookie campaign that saw him convert just 71% of his FGs. Folk has bested that mark in 7 straight seasons.
Bucs K Robert Aguayo's roster spot isn't a lock heading into 2017. “We will do everything we can to bring in the best competition at that position,” GM Jason Licht said. “I think Dirk [Koetter] even said he’s not locked into this roster. He needs to have a great camp just like all of our players, but we will continue to find the best competition that we can and ultimately have the best kicker that we can on this roster – whether it’s him or somebody else.” It seems ridiculous to consider cutting Aguayo after Tampa just spent the 59th overall pick of last year's draft on him -- but it was ridiculous to spend that pick on a K to begin with. Aguayo missed an NFL-high 9 FGs as a rookie.
Buccaneers K Roberto Aguayo went just 2-for-4 on FG attempts in his 2nd NFL exhibition Saturday night. He missed from 32 yards and 49 yards, pushing wide right each time. "We've got to make the damn field goal," HC Dirk Koetter said after the game, per ESPN.com. The 2nd-round rookie will be interesting to watch this year because of his draft status. He certainly doesn't look like a top-shelf fantasy option for 2016.
