Titans QB Marcus Mariota (leg) has been cleared for the start of training camp, HC Mike Mularkey said. Mularkey added that the team will "monitor him early on." No surprises here. Mariota has had a smooth recovery from last December's broken leg, but Tennessee will be careful with its franchise passer until we get closer to the regular season. Mariota is clearly on track to be a full-go come Week 1, though.

Titans QB Marcus Mariota will report to training camp at 215 pounds, his trainer told insider Paul Kuharsky. That's 7 pounds lighter than Mariota has been listed the past 2 years. “I have always told Marcus that I thought he should play at 215 pounds because I felt like he was the fastest at that weight,” trainer Ryan Flaherty said. “I told him that they can't hit what they can't catch so he should think about playing at a weight where he is his fastest ... He will be much quicker and faster this year and the goal with that will be to take less hits which will in turn keep him healthy." We'll see if the slimmer Mariota is able to make it through 16 games this season -- something he's yet to do -- but it should certainly raise his rushing ceiling.

Titans QB Marcus Mariota responded well to his first appearance in OTAs. “It felt great,” said Mariota, who’s coming off a fractured fibula on December 24. “Four months ago I wasn’t sure I was going to be able to participate in OTAs, and being able to do some of the drills... I was very happy and very grateful. It was fun to be out there with the guys, and I enjoyed it.” HC Mike Mularkey confirmed that the Titans will take it slow with their franchise passer. “We’ll take it day by day with Marcus,” Mularkey said. “He’d like to do more. He looks like he can do more, but it’s May, so we have time.” A notoriously hard worker, Mariota is on track to be 100% well ahead of Week 1.

Titans HC Mike Mularkey said Wednesday that the team will be "very cautious" with QB Marcus Mariota, and that the plan is to hold him out until training camp. "He's right on schedule," Mularkey added. Mariota will spend the majority of the offseason rehabbing that broken fibula, which obviously isn't ideal for a 3rd-year QB. He'll at least be returning to the same offense, though, so there's no learning curve there. Mariota will certainly be worth targeting in 2017 fantasy drafts if the price is right. He was sitting 8th among QBs in fantasy points through 16 weeks this past year.

Titans QB Marcus Mariota is expected to be sidelined 4-5 months after undergoing surgery on Wednesday to repair his fractured fibula. “From what I am told, he shouldn’t (lose any mobility) if the surgery goes well," HC Mike Mularkey said. Mariota might miss some or all of OTAs and minicamps, but he should be ready to go for training camp. He turned in a strong 2nd season, tossing 26 TDs vs. just 9 INTs. Mariota is sitting 8th among QBs in fantasy points through 16 weeks. QB Matt Cassel will start Sunday's finale vs. the Texans.

Injury Predictor

The only real injury concern for this young QB is the fractured right fibula he suffered last Christmas Eve. Mariota needed surgery to repair the fracture and will be rehabbing the leg right up until training camp. He was limited in OTAs this spring, but still managed some 7-on-7 non-contact, throwing drills. All indications are that he’ll be a “go” for Week 1 of the regular season.
