ESPN reports that the Giants will use their franchise tag on DE Jason Pierre-Paul. It's not a surprising move given JPP's continued studly performance before injury ended his 2016 prematurely. Durability has long been his primary issue, but Pierre-Paul returned to dominance last season even with his fireworks-altered hand. He also just turned 28 in January. JPP has reportedly said he won't play on a 1-year deal. The tag gives the 2 sides until July 15 to reach a longer-term agreement. Barring a summer holdout, you should expect Pierre-Paul to rank among our top 5 IDP linemen come preseason
Giants DE Jason Pierre-Paul is active for today's game against Washington. He entered the day questionable with finger and back issues. Pierre-Paul played through the finger injury last week, so the back problem seems like the bigger question mark. That injury adds risk, so weigh JPP against your other IDP options.
Giants DE Jason Pierre-Paul is questionable for Sunday's game against the Eagles, listed with finger and back injuries. He played through the finger issue in Week 16 but missed practice all this week while dealing with the back problem. We'll update his status Sunday morning.
As expected, Giants DE Jason Pierre-Paul is active for today's game against the Cowboys after turning up questionable with a finger issue. Play him as you normally would in IDP lineups.
Giants DE Jason Pierre-Paul missed practice Wednesday with knee and shoulder injuries. According to SNY's Ralph Vacchiano, HC Ben McAdoo said the shoulder issue arose over the past 2 days and that they must see how JPP responds to treatment before knowing his status for Week 5. The knee didn't show up on the injury report for any previous weeks but seems like the lesser issue here. We'll keep an eye out for updates. The Giants' defense has already seen DE Olivier Vernon leave 2 straight games with an ankle injury that kept him out of Wednesday's workout.
The Giants have agreed to a 4-year contract with DE Jason Pierre-Paul, NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports. That should lock in the 28-year-old with the team into his 30s -- and perhaps for the length of his career. Pierre-Paul was scoring like a top-5 fantasy D-lineman once again last year before hitting IR with a sports hernia in December. Adam Schefter reports that his new deal includes $54 million and averages $17 million annually. That would make it very similar to the contract DE Olivier Vernon signed with the Giants last offseason -- though with $1.5 million more guaranteed over 1 fewer season. The team obviously believes that JPP will continue to produce, and we see no reason to dislike him heading into 2017 fantasy football drafts.
