Ryan Grant GBP -RB

heading back to Green Bay

The Packers are bringing back free-agent RB Ryan Grant.  It's confirmation that RB James Starks (knee) will be sidelined indefinitely.  Grant has been out of the league all season and is on the decline at 29 years old.  But he averaged a decent 4.2 yards per carry while sharing backfield duties last season.  And he knows Green Bay's offense inside-out.  He should quickly work his way into action -- potentially even splitting the workload with RB Alex Green within the next few weeks.  We wouldn't be adding Grant to fantasy rosters though.

The Redskins have released RB Ryan Grant.  He carried just 1 time in his 4 games with Washington.  Turning 30 years old in December, Grant's NFL career is on life support.  The 'Skins added RB Keiland Williams in Grant's place, but he won't be a fantasy factor.  RB Alfred Morris still has a stranglehold on lead back duties.

The Redskins have signed RB Ryan Grant.  He averaged 4.2 yards per carry with Green Bay last year, but the fact that it took him so long to find a home tells you a lot about his ability at this point.  Washington likely views him as insurance with RB Roy Helu (toe) and RB Evan Royster (knee) both banged-up.  RB Alfred Morris remains the lead back.  We doubt Grant sees more than a handful of carries in any game this season, but you never know with HC Mike Shanahan.  Grant is at least worth monitoring.

As expected, Packers RB Ryan Grant (knee) is active for today's game against the Bucs.  He got stitches in his knee early this week, but it shouldn't impact his play.  Still, Grant is a weak fantasy option.

gets stitches for cut on knee

Packers RB Ryan Grant suffered a cut on his knee during last Monday night's game that required stitches.  He didn't practice on Wednesday, but HC Mike McCarthy still expects him to play against the Bucs this weekend.  Grant hasn't seen more than 9 carries since Week 3 and is just a low-end RB3 or flex option.

Packers RB Ryan Grant has officially been cleared to return from his bruised kidney.  He'll play against the Falcons this Sunday night, rotating series with RB James Starks.  Both guys are low-end RB2 options unless a clear lead back emerges.

expects to be back for Week 5

Packers RB Ryan Grant (bruised kidney) was held out of Sunday's game against the Broncos but expects to return for Week 5.  “I should be good to go next week,” he said. “Everything looks good."  Grant will undergo one more test on Monday before being medically-cleared.  RB James Starks was solid as Green Bay's feature back Sunday, rushing 13 times for 63 yards and adding another 38 yards on 5 catches.  It wasn't enough to phase Grant out of the offense though.  This will continue to be a committee attack going forward.

held out again Friday

Packers RB Ryan Grant (kidney) missed practice for the 3rd-straight day on Friday.  All signs point to him missing Sunday’s game against the Broncos. That means James Starks will step in as the clear-cut feature back. He should see 15+ touches and is a strong fantasy play. Rookie Alex Green will be the #2 back but isn’t likely to see more than a handful of touches.

'likely out' for Week 4

The Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel reports that Packers RB Ryan Grant is "likely out" for Sunday's matchup with Denver because of a bruised kidney. This falls in line with our expectation all week based on previous reports. The absence couldn't come at a much better time for James Starks owners. Denver is a plus rushing matchup, despite what the 3-game totals might indicate. If the Packers truly give Starks a more primary workload this week, he could have the breakthrough game many have been hoping for. He's a high-ceiling fantasy option with fairly low risk.
