D'Qwell JacksonIND -LBColts add Jackson
LB D'Qwell Jackson has reached a deal with the Colts. ESPN reports he'll get $22 million over 4 years, including $11 million guaranteed. That seems a hefty sum for a 31-year-old ILB whom PFF graded 49th against the run at his position each of the past 2 years. The money suggests that Jackson will play 3 downs, which would obviously help his IDP value. Jerrell Freeman's presence -- as the much better player -- hurts a bit, though. Look for Jackson to settle into low LB3 range in our 2014 IDP rankings.
D'Qwell JacksonIND -LBBrowns dump Jackson
The Browns have released LB D'Qwell Jackson, and it doesn't sound like they plan to bring him back. "We want to thank him for his eight years of service and wish him nothing but the best in his future endeavors," new GM Ray Farmer said in a statement. The move comes as no surprise. Jackson had a $4 million roster bonus coming due in March and a $2.6 million base salary for the coming season, and his performance didn't come close to matching that. Jackson will turn 31 in September and doesn't look like a good bet to land a starting gig elsewhere.
D'Qwell JacksonIND -LBactive
Browns ILB D'Qwell Jackson is active for today's rematch with the Ravens. He was questionable with three separate lower-body ailments. That certainly makes Jackson's durability a bit worrisome for IDP owners. Leaving him out of the lineup if he's healthy enough to play, however, is always risky. Jackson delivered 11 tackles in the 1st meeting with Baltimore this year.
D'Qwell JacksonIND -LBreturns to practice
Browns MLB D'Qwell Jackson returned to practice today after sustaining a concussion in Week 5. The return appears to put him in line to play against the Bengals on Sunday. We'll be adding him to his usual lofty spot in our weekly LB rankings.
D'Qwell JacksonIND -LBsuffers concussion
Cleveland played the 2nd half of Sunday's loss to the Giants without MLB D'Qwell Jackson. The defensive leader suffered a concussion in the 2nd quarter. He'll obviously have to pass the mandated tests before he can return. Jackson owners had better find a contingency plan for Week 6 at least.
D'Qwell JacksonIND -LBre-signs with Browns
The Browns agreed to terms on a new 5-year deal Monday with MLB D'Qwell Jackson. The veteran LB would have been an unrestricted free agent but was widely expected to stick around. Jackson rebounded from 2 injury-sapped seasons to lead tackle-friendly IDP leagues in scoring last year. He's a lock to be at least 1 of the top 3 fantasy LBs off the board come draft time.
D'Qwell JacksonIND -LBstaying in the middle
After some murmurs earlier this week about D'Qwell Jackson moving to WLB, it turns out he's staying in the middle. The Browns will reportedly start Kaluka Maiava at WLB this weekend, with Chris Gocong moving over to SLB. That position is open after veteran Scott Fujita hit IR earlier this week. If Maiava doesn't hold up, the Browns could also try Titus Brown at MLB and move Jackson outside. That reportedly isn't the plan for Sunday at least, though. IDP owners have no need to worry about Jackson's outlook.
D'Qwell JacksonIND -LBmoving to WLB
The Browns are reportedly moving MLB D'Qwell Jackson to WLB after placing SLB Scott Fujita on IR. The plan is for WLB Chris Gocong to slide over to Fujita's vacated spot, Jackson to move outside and Titus Brown to take over in the middle. The move shouldn't hurt the IDP value of Jackson, who has played multiple LB positions dating back to his college days at Maryland. He has the speed and range to make plenty of tackles from either spot. Brown, a 4th-year pro, has yet to start an NFL game. He brings size (6'3, 250) and hitting but questionable speed. He'll be interesting to watch.
D'Qwell JacksonIND -LBwill play MLB
The Akron Beacon Journal reports that D'Qwell Jackson has been told he'll play MLB in the Browns' new 4-3. The only question with Jackson has been his durability, which was non-existent the past 2 years. He led the league in tackles the year before that. Jackson stands as a high-ceiling IDP with this news and is well worth the gamble in the average fantasy league. Chris Gocong, on the other hand, continues to wander the NFL plains, in search of a position.
D'Qwell JacksonIND -LBa great fit for new D
Cleveland's new 4-3 scheme under DC Dick Jauron is "tailor-made" for Jackson's skill set. That's what Browns OLB Scott Fujita told Mary Kay Cabot of The Plain Dealer this week. Fujita said Jackson has already learned the whole playbook and that his speed and sideline-to-sideline range will be allowed to shine in this system. We expect Jackson to start on the weak side, though he could play the middle as well. Injury is the obvious concern with a guy who has totaled just 6 games over the past 2 years. Gambling on him could return a big IDP payday, though.
D'Qwell JacksonIND -LBD'Qwell Jackson out for the season
The Browns have placed LB D'Qwell Jackson on IR with a torn pectoral muscle. Jackson was leading the team with 58 total tackles, which was also good enough for 3rd in the entire NFL. The Browns rank 30th in the NFL in run defense right now. They could quickly drop to 32nd after this blow.
D'Qwell JacksonIND -LBD'Qwell Jackson will play
Despite being listed as doubtful, Browns LB D'Qwell Jackson (hamstring) is active for today's game against the Bills. Don't expect him to play a full slate of snaps though. Bills RBs Marshawn Lynch and Fred Jackson are still both borderline RB2s.
