Colts LB Jerrell Freeman will miss his 2nd straight game in Week 3 because of a hamstring injury.  Josh McNary started in Freeman's place Monday night against the Eagles and collected 5 tackles.  He's no option for IDP owners.  The other ILB starter, D'Qwell Jackson, gains tackle upside with Freeman out.  He has moved up our Week 3 IDP rankings.

The Colts have ruled out ILB Jerrell Freeman for Monday night's clash with the Eagles because of a hamstring injury. That adds some tackle upside to the other inside starter, D'Qwell Jackson. We've moved the veteran up our Week 2 IDP rankings. Josh McNary is expected to start in place of Freeman. He has yet to log a start through 2 NFL seasons.

LB D'Qwell Jackson has reached a deal with the Colts.  ESPN reports he'll get $22 million over 4 years, including $11 million guaranteed.  That seems a hefty sum for a 31-year-old ILB whom PFF graded 49th against the run at his position each of the past 2 years.  The money suggests that Jackson will play 3 downs, which would obviously help his IDP value.  Jerrell Freeman's presence -- as the much better player -- hurts a bit, though.  Look for Jackson to settle into low LB3 range in our 2014 IDP rankings.

The Browns have released LB D'Qwell Jackson, and it doesn't sound like they plan to bring him back.  "We want to thank him for his eight years of service and wish him nothing but the best in his future endeavors," new GM Ray Farmer said in a statement.  The move comes as no surprise.  Jackson had a $4 million roster bonus coming due in March and a $2.6 million base salary for the coming season, and his performance didn't come close to matching that.  Jackson will turn 31 in September and doesn't look like a good bet to land a starting gig elsewhere.

Browns LB Craig Robertson (knee) is inactive today against the Steelers.  Tank Carder will start in his place.  LB D'Qwell Jackson is the only IDP-worthy guy inside for Cleveland, though.

The Akron Beacon Journal reports that 2nd-year man Craig Robertson continues to lead the competition to start at ILB next to D'Qwell Jackson.  It also reports that even Robertson "did not make a strong case for himself this spring" in the Browns' new 3-4 scheme under DC Ray Horton.  Robertson is competing with Tank Carder, L.J. Fort and perhaps James-Michael Johnson.  The fact that none has impressed could lead to some kind of rotation, though Horton stuck with the average Paris Lenon at that spot in his Arizona D.  The whole situation helps to remind that Jackson is the star here and could easily challenge for the league tackle lead once again.  Target him in your 2013 IDP fantasy football draft.

New Browns DC Ray Horton said unequivocally in a Thursday radio interview that his defense is going 3-4 next season. The obvious first question for IDP owners is: Whither Jabaal Sheard? He's all OLB in the new front and should hold up fine there. His fantasy value could take a hit with the position eligibility switch, but the new role also could help his pass rushing. Production lagged on that front in his 2nd season. ILB D'Qwell Jackson can play anywhere and should be just fine. DTs Ahtyba Rubin and Phil Taylor must have their roles sorted out. One figures to slide to DE, but it's not clear which would fit such a move better. The Browns will also likely need to seek another OLB starter. Frostee Rucker would be limited at best in that role. James Michael Johnson should be the front runner to start next to Jackson at ILB. He could turn into a sleeper with enough playing time. Paris Lenon played 93.7% of the Cardinals' defensive snaps starting next to ILB Daryl Washington last year.

Browns ILB D'Qwell Jackson is active for today's rematch with the Ravens. He was questionable with three separate lower-body ailments. That certainly makes Jackson's durability a bit worrisome for IDP owners. Leaving him out of the lineup if he's healthy enough to play, however, is always risky. Jackson delivered 11 tackles in the 1st meeting with Baltimore this year.

Browns MLB D'Qwell Jackson returned to practice today after sustaining a concussion in Week 5. The return appears to put him in line to play against the Bengals on Sunday. We'll be adding him to his usual lofty spot in our weekly LB rankings.

Cleveland played the 2nd half of Sunday's loss to the Giants without MLB D'Qwell Jackson. The defensive leader suffered a concussion in the 2nd quarter. He'll obviously have to pass the mandated tests before he can return. Jackson owners had better find a contingency plan for Week 6 at least.

The Browns agreed to terms on a new 5-year deal Monday with MLB D'Qwell Jackson. The veteran LB would have been an unrestricted free agent but was widely expected to stick around. Jackson rebounded from 2 injury-sapped seasons to lead tackle-friendly IDP leagues in scoring last year. He's a lock to be at least 1 of the top 3 fantasy LBs off the board come draft time.

After some murmurs earlier this week about D'Qwell Jackson moving to WLB, it turns out he's staying in the middle. The Browns will reportedly start Kaluka Maiava at WLB this weekend, with Chris Gocong moving over to SLB. That position is open after veteran Scott Fujita hit IR earlier this week. If Maiava doesn't hold up, the Browns could also try Titus Brown at MLB and move Jackson outside. That reportedly isn't the plan for Sunday at least, though. IDP owners have no need to worry about Jackson's outlook.

The Browns are reportedly moving MLB D'Qwell Jackson to WLB after placing SLB Scott Fujita on IR. The plan is for WLB Chris Gocong to slide over to Fujita's vacated spot, Jackson to move outside and Titus Brown to take over in the middle. The move shouldn't hurt the IDP value of Jackson, who has played multiple LB positions dating back to his college days at Maryland. He has the speed and range to make plenty of tackles from either spot. Brown, a 4th-year pro, has yet to start an NFL game. He brings size (6'3, 250) and hitting but questionable speed. He'll be interesting to watch.

The Akron Beacon Journal reports that D'Qwell Jackson has been told he'll play MLB in the Browns' new 4-3. The only question with Jackson has been his durability, which was non-existent the past 2 years. He led the league in tackles the year before that. Jackson stands as a high-ceiling IDP with this news and is well worth the gamble in the average fantasy league. Chris Gocong, on the other hand, continues to wander the NFL plains, in search of a position.

Cleveland's new 4-3 scheme under DC Dick Jauron is "tailor-made" for Jackson's skill set. That's what Browns OLB Scott Fujita told Mary Kay Cabot of The Plain Dealer this week. Fujita said Jackson has already learned the whole playbook and that his speed and sideline-to-sideline range will be allowed to shine in this system. We expect Jackson to start on the weak side, though he could play the middle as well. Injury is the obvious concern with a guy who has totaled just 6 games over the past 2 years. Gambling on him could return a big IDP payday, though.
