Cowboys CB Terence Newman (groin) has been ruled out for Week 2.  With CB Orlando Scandrick (ankle) also out, Dallas will once again be fielding a sub-par secondary.  49ers QB Alex Smith isn't likely to take advantage though.

Cowboys top CB Terence Newman (groin) has been ruled out for Sunday night's game against the Jets.  He was given a 4-6 week timetable when he suffered the injury in early August and still hasn't been able to get back on the field.  His absence is excellent news for QB Mark Sanchez and WR Santonio Holmes.

After 4 games the Dallas Cowboys are 32nd in INTs (0) and 30th in scoring defense (30.0). They do rank 5th in sacks (12) so the defensive line is getting pressure. Cowboys reporter Jean Jacques Taylor writes about CB Terence Newman: "The last time I remember Newman struggling like this was the playoff game against Carolina his rookie season, when Steve Smith killed the Cowboys."

The AP reports: "Dallas Cowboys cornerback Terence Newman will miss at least three weeks of practice because of a groin injury." Newman could miss a game or two if he's not careful. This isn't enough to downgrade his IDP or their Team DEF status yet -- especially since his replacement could/would be none other than... Pacman Jones.

Cowboys CB Terence Newman signed a new 6-year, $50.2 million deal. A whopping $22.5m is guaranteed over the first 3 years. Dallas is trying to keep all the pieces in place because they're in Super Bowl contention.
