Bengals CB Terence Newman (ankle) is inactive for today's game against the Browns. Fortunately, that shouldn't particularly hurt anyone's IDP lineup or a Bengals defense that you shouldn't be using in fantasy football anyway.

Cowboys CB Terence Newman (groin) has been ruled out for Week 2.  With CB Orlando Scandrick (ankle) also out, Dallas will once again be fielding a sub-par secondary.  49ers QB Alex Smith isn't likely to take advantage though.

Cowboys top CB Terence Newman (groin) has been ruled out for Sunday night's game against the Jets.  He was given a 4-6 week timetable when he suffered the injury in early August and still hasn't been able to get back on the field.  His absence is excellent news for QB Mark Sanchez and WR Santonio Holmes.

The Cowboys signed S Abram Elam to a 1-year deal Wednesday and will head into the season with him starting next to re-signed S Gerald Sensabaugh. Elam spent the past 2 years starting under DC Rob Ryan in Cleveland, delivering 91 and then 79 tackles. Elam's coverage numbers picked up significantly in 2010 with T.J. Ward on board. Both Elam and Sensabaugh profile more as strong players but also have experience at free. Expect Dallas to use both fairly interchangeably. Neither is a high-ceiling IDP, but both could deliver decent production at a volatile position. The team also will be without CB Terence Newman for 4-6 weeks because of a groin injury. The Cowboys now must live with the already unwise decision to keep the over-the-hill 32-year-old and his $8 million salary. Cutting Newman (before the injury) would have saved $4 million in cap space.

After 4 games the Dallas Cowboys are 32nd in INTs (0) and 30th in scoring defense (30.0). They do rank 5th in sacks (12) so the defensive line is getting pressure. Cowboys reporter Jean Jacques Taylor writes about CB Terence Newman: "The last time I remember Newman struggling like this was the playoff game against Carolina his rookie season, when Steve Smith killed the Cowboys."

The AP reports: "Dallas Cowboys cornerback Terence Newman will miss at least three weeks of practice because of a groin injury." Newman could miss a game or two if he's not careful. This isn't enough to downgrade his IDP or their Team DEF status yet -- especially since his replacement could/would be none other than... Pacman Jones.

Cowboys CB Terence Newman signed a new 6-year, $50.2 million deal. A whopping $22.5m is guaranteed over the first 3 years. Dallas is trying to keep all the pieces in place because they're in Super Bowl contention.
