Chaz Schilens NYJ -WR

joins the Jets

The Jets have signed WR Chaz Schilens to a 1-year deal.  Schilens boasts an intriguing blend of size and athleticism, but he's never been able to stay healthy.  He's missed 20 games over the past 3 years.  If Schilens can stay on the field, though, he has a legitimate chance to win New York's #2 WR job.  But even then, he wouldn't possess a whole lot of upside in the Jets' run-heavy attack.

expected to play Week 14

The foot injury that Raiders WR Chaz Schilens suffered on Sunday is considered minor.  HC Hue Jackson called Schilens "day-to-day" and expects him to be available for this weekend's game against the Packers.  Schilens has racked up 10 catches for 147 yards over the past 2 weeks, but his role will decrease when WRs Denarius Moore and Jacoby Ford return from their injuries -- possibly this week.

suffers foot injury

Raiders WR Chaz Schilens caught 6 balls for 89 yards against the Dolphins on Sunday, but he suffered a foot injury near the end of the game.  Same old, same old here for Schilens, who has never been able to stay healthy.  We should get an update on the severity on Monday.

expected to play Week 1

Raiders WR Chaz Schilens (knee) has been able to practice the past 3 days and plans on playing in the team's season-opener against the Broncos on Monday night.  After missing most of August, Schilens is buried on the depth chart.  We'll monitor him, but he's not a fantasy option at this point.

back at practice

Raiders WR Chaz Schilens returned to practice on Sunday.  He'd been out the past 3-and-a-half weeks with a sprained knee.  Schilens' status for Week 1 remains unclear, although he won't have a major role on offense even if he is active.  If he can stay healthy, Schilens could move his way up Oakland's depth chart.  But for now, he's not worth a spot on your roster.

still out with knee injury

Raiders WR Chaz Schilens has yet to practice since injury his knee on August 11th.  He was spotted working out with a trainer today, which may be a sign he's getting close to returning.  But he's now buried on the depth chart behind Jacoby Ford, Darrius Heyward-Bey, Louis Murphy, and Denarius Moore.  Schilens isn't a fantasy option at this point.

has sprained knee

Raiders WR Chaz Schilens sprained his right knee in the team's 1st preseason game on Thursday.  It's a minor injury, but Schilens is a notoriously slow healer.  It's unclear when he'll be able to get back on the field.  Not a good start to the season for the talented-but-injury-prone WR.  We'd stay away from him in fantasy drafts for now.

in line to start this year?

Raiders beat writer Steve Corkran projects Louis Murphy and Chaz Schilens to be the team's Week 1 starting WRs.  Murphy is locked into a starting spot, but the Schilens prediction is a bit of a surprise.  While he's not short on talent, Schilens has missed 19 games over the past 2 seasons with knee and foot injuries.  We had assumed that he was penciled in as Oakland's 4th WR behind Murphy, Jacoby Ford, and Darrius Heyward-Bey.  This figures to be a fluid situation, and none of these guys have huge upside on the Raiders' mediocre passing attack.  That being said, Schilens has an intriguing skill-set and is worth a late-round flier.

100% healthy

Raiders HC Hue Jackson deemed WR Chaz Schilens 100% healthy.   "He's out there making plays, making catches," Jackson said.  "He's done a tremendous job. He looks like Chaz toward the end of the year.  He's a big man. He's fast and he's tough and he's courageous and he loves the sport. We just have to keep him healthy and keep him out there. I think he's a huge asset to our team."  We've always been intrigued by Schilens' skill-set, but he's missed a combined 19 games over the past 2 years.  Even if he's healthy this season, he'll need to fight for snaps with WRs Louis Murphy, Jacoby Ford, and Darrius Heyward-Bey.  Schilens is still off the fantasy radar for now.

still has no timetable for return

The Oakland Tribune reports that there is still no timetable for Raiders WR Chaz Schilens' return.  He underwent knee surgery almost 2 months ago but has yet to practice with the team since.  Don't count on him to make a fantasy impact this season.

without a return date

Raiders HC Tom Cable still isn’t sure when WR Chaz Schillens will return to practice. "We're making progress," said Cable. "I would say the training staff is probably happy with where he's at right now. We still have a ways to go but we're progressing." Chaz has let chronic knee and foot injuries prevent him from posting a potential breakout season. He should be on the waiver wire in all leagues.

out a couple more weeks

Raiders beat writer says WR Chaz Schilens "is definitely out another couple of weeks after knee surgery."  Schilens had the procedure done a little over 2 weeks ago, and his timetable for return was set at 3-6 weeks.  It looks like it'll end up being closer to 6 weeks.  He won't be a fantasy factor in September.

out 3-6 weeks

Raiders HC Tom Cable says WR Chaz Schilens will miss 3-6 weeks after undergoing knee surgery.  Based on Schilens' past history with injuries, we'd be surprised if he's back before late September.  Louis Murphy is the only Raiders WR worth drafting.

has knee scoped

Confirming a previous story, Raiders WR Chaz Schilens had his knee scoped on Tuesday.  A scope is better than full-fledged surgery, but Schilens will still miss a significant amount of time.  No timetable has been set for his return, but we're guessing he'll miss at least a month.  He's pretty much undraftable at this point.  Louis Murphy is the Raiders WR to target.

may need knee surgery

Raiders HC Tom Cable announced today that WR Chaz Schilens may need knee surgery.  Schilens has dealt with foot issues over the past couple years, and we thought that was the reason he had missed almost all of training camp and preseason action.  But it sounds like he's dealing with a completely separate knee injury.  We'll update his status when we learn more, but we just knocked him down our rankings.

still out

Raiders WR Chaz Schilens (foot) was unable to play in the team's 2nd preseason game on Saturday night.  The team expected him to be 100% recovered from offseason foot surgery by now, so this is definitely a concern.  We just lowered him down our rankings a bit.

out for preseason opener

The Raiders will hold WR Chaz Schilens (foot) out of their preseason opener on Thursday.  Schilens has been a full participant in training camp over the last week, so the team is likely just being cautious here.  Look for Schilens to play in the 2nd preseason game.

back at practice

Raiders WR Chaz Schilens (foot) was back on the practice field today after missing the first few days of training camp.  Barring a setback, he should be 100% by Week 1.  Slated to be Oakland's top WR, he's a guy to target with one of your last few picks.
