The Titans have signed free-agent OLB Brian Orakpo and re-signed free-agent OLB Derrick Morgan. Both players stood among the most talented edge rushers on the open market. Morgan tallied just 6.5 sacks last year but added another 7 QB hits and 30 hurries in his 1st season as a 3-4 OLB. Orakpo has lost 9+ games to injury 2 of the past 3 years but has reached 8.5 sacks in each of his other 4 years. The Titans quietly tied for 4th-most starter weeks (8) among team defenses in fantasy football last year. Look to them as a late-round draft option, especially with S Da'Norris Searcy also added and DE Leonard Williams potentially on the way in the NFL draft.

The Titans' new defensive coaching staff sees double-digit sack potential in DE Derrick Morgan.  DL coach Giff Smith worked with Morgan in college, where the DE put up 12.5 sacks as a senior and won ACC defensive player of the year honors.  Smith told The Tennessean that DC Ray Horton's scheme should put Morgan in “more one-on-one situations on third downs, and allow him to use his natural ability. And then we can fine-tune some technique stuff for him to get his sack totals up into double digits.”  Pro Football Focus rated Morgan the league's 10th-best 4-3 DE last season and 6th-best pass-rusher at the position.  With 14 QB hits and 37 hurries, Morgan was already a double-digit sack candidate.  He'll likely sit higher in our 2014 IDP rankings than his 2013 numbers would seem to support.

Titans DE Derrick Morgan (groin) is active for today's game against the Raiders.  He finished the week with a full practice and now faces the league's 2nd most sacked offense.  Morgan carries plenty of upside for your IDP lineup.

Titans DE Derrick Morgan (groin) is questionable for Sunday's clash with the Raiders.  Morgan finished the week with a full practice and seems likely to play, but we'll keep an eye on his status when the late-game inactives come out.

Titans DE Derrick Morgan (shoulder) is inactive for today's matchup with the Niners.  He had been questionable after putting in only limited practice time.

Pro Football Talk reports that Chargers RT D.J. Fluker will miss Week 3 because of a concussion.  That only helps the IDP outlook of Titans DE Derrick Morgan.  It does nothing to help Chargers RB Ryan Mathews, already a risky play thanks to his continued fumbling issues.

The Tennessean has singled out Titans DE Derrick Morgan as the "offseason star" among D-linemen.  "He did nothing to slow the momentum he gained last season," beat guy John Glennon wrote.  Morgan enjoyed easily his most productive year to date in 2012, when he finally made it through 16 games for the 1st time.  He carries big statistical upside into year 4 and is still just 24 years old.  Pro Football Focus graded him the 3rd-best overall 4-3 DE last year.  Check out our 2013 IDP rankings to see how much we think of Morgan this year.

The Tennessean reports that Titans HC Mike Munchak expects DEs Derrick Morgan and Jason Jones to practice and play this week. That's definitely a good thing for a D that allowed Jacksonville RBs 153 rushing yards on Sunday and recorded a pedestrian 2 sacks against Luke McCown. The Titans held DL tryouts on Tuesday but could only turn up a group whose biggest names were Everette Brown and Aaron Maybin. (Yuck.) Whenever they prove all the way back, Jones and Morgan -- in that order -- are the best bets for production on this front.

DE Derrick Morgan had arthroscopic surgery on his right knee Monday and is expected to be out for "a few weeks," according to Jim Wyatt of The Tennessean. Morgan is listed behind William Hayes at LDE on the depth chart, but the Titans' D could really use a bounce back. The 2010 1st-round pick tore his right ACL early last season and had been having trouble with the knee of and on in camp. In light of this, it's tough to expect much production from him in 2011. Morgan remains an interesting IDP candidate beyond that, though.
