So, how much would a whole ear be worth? Broncos MLB Joe Mays has been suspended 1 game by the league for his helmet-to-chin hit Sunday that left Matt Schaub missing a piece of his left earlobe. Mays has apologized publicly for the hit and reportedly said after the game that he expected a fine. (He got that, too: $50,000.) Adam Schefter reports that Mays is appealing the suspension. We'll see if he's available for the Week 4 matchup with Oakland. The Broncos list rookie Steven Johnson as Mays' backup on the team website.
MLB Joe Mays signed a reported 3-year deal Sunday to remain a Bronco. Mays started 12 games in the middle for Denver last season and proved a strong run defender. He doesn't play well in pass D, though, which makes him a 2-down guy. He'll likely have to compete with 2011 3rd-round pick Nate Irving for the MLB job. That'll be an interesting battle for IDP owners to watch. We should hope that Irving wins. He's the better bet for solid fantasy value.
