The 49ers have signed WR Torrey Smith to a 5-year, $40 million deal.  It's a nice addition to a Niners offense in need of a field-stretcher.  Smith should pair nicely with WR Anquan Boldin.  Smith's fantasy value takes a hit, though.  San Francisco has been 1 of the 6 most run-heavy teams in the league in 4 straight seasons and will likely finish there again in 2015.  Smith also moves from 1 of the game's better deep-ball throwers to an inconsistent one.  Colin Kaepernick finished 17th in Pro Football Focus' 2014 deep-ball accuracy after ranking 5th in 2013.

Ravens insider Aaron Wilson hears that WR Torrey Smith to the 49ers is a "done deal."  San Francisco is reportedly set to pay Smith $8 or $9 million per year -- a figure Baltimore couldn't match.  Smith is only 26 and scored a personal-best 11 TDs this past season.  But he also tied a career low with 49 catches and set career lows with 767 yards and 15.7 yards per catch.  Smith has yet to develop the all-around game to be considered a true #1 WR.  San Francisco doesn't look like a great landing spot, either.  The Niners still figure to be a run-leaning offense.  And QB Colin Kaepernick ranked just 17th in deep-ball accuracy last year, according to Pro Football Focus.  The Ravens, meanwhile, are left with soon-to-be 36-year-old Steve Smith, Marlon Brown and Kamar Aiken as their top 3 WRs.  They'll need to address the position in free agency and/or the draft.

The Ravens left WR Torrey Smith off their initial Week 16 injury report Wednesday. That's noteworthy, because Smith barely played at Miami last week after his injured knee swelled up in pregame warm-ups. We'll watch for further reports on his health this week, because it's tough to believe he's already back near 100%. If he's anywhere in that neighborhood, though, Smith would make for a high-upside fantasy football play against the Texans.

Ravens WR Torrey Smith (knee) is active for today’s game against the Jaguars. Of course, he was active last week but barely played and finished without a single catch. Smith was still limping around at practice on Friday. We’d avoid him in Week 15 fantasy lineups.

Updating a previous item, the Ravens have listed WR Torrey Smith (knee) as probable for this weekend's game against the Jaguars.  He was officially a full participant in Friday's practice, even though the media saw him limping around.  Smith was also listed as probable last week before serving as a decoy.  He still can't be trusted in fantasy lineups.

Ravens WR Torrey Smith (knee) is questionable for this weekend’s game against the Jaguars. He put in a limited practice on Friday but was “looking gimpy and uncomfortable running pass patterns at half-speed,” according to insider Aaron Wilson. “I would love to be out there Sunday, but we'll see,” Smith said afterward. Baltimore might test of his knee in pregame warmups, but Smith can’t be trusted in fantasy lineups even if he ends up playing.

Ravens WR Torrey Smith (knee) remained sidelined on Thursday.  He's looking unlikely to play against the Jaguars this weekend.  And even if he does, we can't trust him in fantasy lineups.  Look for WR Steve Smith to dominate targets on Sunday.

Ravens WR Torrey Smith (knee) did not practice on Wednesday.  He's unlikely to practice much, if at all, this week.  And he'll likely end up as a game-time decision for Sunday's tilt with the Jaguars.  Despite that plus matchup, Smith will be tough to trust in fantasy lineups after going catch-less as a decoy last week.

An MRI revealed that Ravens WR Torrey Smith has a sprained knee but no ligament tears, HC John Harbaugh told The Baltimore Sun on Monday. Harbaugh said he has not yet determined the receiver's status for Sunday's game against the Jaguars. If you've been counting on Smith in your fantasy lineup in recent weeks, you need to plan as though he's not playing. Baltimore's top wideout appeared in Sunday's win at Miami but strictly as a decoy.

Ravens WR Torrey Smith was active for Sunday's game against the Dolphins but finished without a target.  He revealed afterward that the knee he injured last week swelled up in pregame warmups.  He ended up serving as a decoy.  Smith hopes to play in Week 15 but admitted that the decision is up to the coaching staff.  Fantasy owners hoping to start him will need to keep a close eye on the practice reports this week.

Ravens WR Torrey Smith (knee) is probable for this weekend's game against the Dolphins.  He put in a full practice on Friday after sitting out the first 2 days, and the "probable" listing suggests the knee isn't a major concern.  Smith looks safe to get into fantasy lineups.

Ravens WR Torrey Smith (knee) plans on playing against the Dolphins this weekend. "The only way I'm not going to play is if I need crutches," he said Thursday.  Smith added that his knee has gotten "much better" with rest and treatment over the past couple days.  We'd like to see him get on the practice field on Friday.  Even then, though, it's tough to believe he'll be at 100% on Sunday.

Ravens WR Torrey Smith (knee) missed his 2nd straight practice on Thursday.  It's time to start worrying about his status for this weekend's game against Miami.  The Ravens have been mum on Smith's injury, but it's clearly more than a minor scrape.  We'll see if he can get on the practice field tomorrow, but fantasy owners need to have a backup plan in place.

Ravens WR Torrey Smith (knee) did not practice on Wednesday.  HC John Harbaugh didn't sound concerned about Smith's status on Monday, but we still don't know much about his injury.  Fantasy owners shouldn't consider him a lock to play against the Dolphins this weekend.  Check back tomorrow for another update.

Ravens HC John Harbaugh expects WR Torrey Smith (knee) to play against the Dolphins this weekend.  "Torrey really didn't have anything too serious," Harbaugh said on Monday. "I don't even know how to describe it right now. He'll just be getting ready for Miami. I guess I'd call him day-to-day."  Smith was unable to finish yesterday's game and was limping around the locker room afterward.  But we still don't have any details on the injury.  We'll keep an eye on his practice participation this week.
