Pro Football Talk reports that Ravens WR Torrey Smithh (concussion) has been cleared to play in today's game against the Giants.  He put in limited practices on Thursday and Friday.  Although he's been ice cold lately, Smith always carries WR1 upside.  And he has a plus matchup against the league's 29th-ranked WR defense.  He's a classic boom/bust fantasy option.

Ravens WR Torrey Smith (concussion) is listed as questionable for this weekend's game against the Giants.  He put in limited practices on Thursday and Friday.  It's unclear if Smith has been cleared for game action, but HC John Harbaugh said Friday afternoon that he's "encouraged" by Smith's progress.  We're expecting him to play, but owners planning on using him should add WR Jacoby Jones (or another late-game WR) as a handcuff.

Torrey Smith BAL -WR

unable to practice Wednesday

Ravens WR Torrey Smith (concussion) did not practice on Wednesday.  He's yet to receive medical clearance.  Owners shouldn't be counting on having Smith available for Week 16.  WR Jacoby Jones would replace Smith in the starting lineup against the Giants, but he'd only be a desperation fantasy option.

Torrey Smith BAL -WR

has a concussion

The Baltimore Sun confirms that Ravens WR Torrey Smith sustained a concussion in Sunday's loss to the Broncos.  He never returned after slamming his head on the turf in the 3rd quarter.  He reportedly "seemed fine" afterwards, joking that he couldn't remember the game.  It looks like Smith avoided a serious head injury, but he's still in a race to get cleared ahead of this coming Sunday's game against the Giants.  WR Jacoby Jones would move into the starting lineup if Smith can't go.

Ravens WR Torrey Smith suffered a head injury in the 3rd quarter of Sunday’s game against the Broncos. His head slammed against the turf after going up for a high pass. Smith was obviously woozy as he walked off the field. He went back to the locker room – presumably for concussion testing – and appears to be done for the day.

Ravens WR Torrey Smith (ankle) is probable for Sunday's game against the Chiefs.  He tweaked that ankle in Baltimore's game last Thursday night but put in a full week of practice.  It won't be an issue on Sunday.  The red-hot Smith is a solid WR2 play in fantasy.

re-joins the team

Ravens WR Torrey Smith has reportedly re-joined the team following the death of his brother early this morning.  It sounds like he'll play against the Patriots tonight.  If you can still alter your lineup, we'd give Smith a go.  He'll certainly have plenty to play for.

Torrey Smith BAL -WR

may not play Week 3

Ravens WR Torrey Smith left the team this morning following the death of his brother in a motorcycle accident late last night.  The team is allowing Smith to decide whether or not he wants play against the Patriots tonight.  ESPN's Sal Paolantonio is reporting that Smith has informed the team he'll play, but we still wouldn't consider it a lock.  Smith owners can protect themselves by adding WR Jacoby Jones, who would start if Smith doesn't play.

Torrey Smith BAL -WR

Ravens WR Torrey Smith is back at practice after tweaking his ankle in last Thursday's preseason opener.  The injury obviously isn't a concern, and Smith's fantasy stock in unaffected.  He caught 3 balls for 43 yards before leaving Thursday's game.  The speedster is an ideal WR3 with upside in fantasy this year.

Torrey Smith BAL -WR

sprains ankle

Ravens WR Torrey Smith suffered a sprained ankle in Thursday night's preseason game. The severity and location (high-ankle?) will determine how long he's sidelined. We should have an update later today. Smith hauled in 3 balls for 43 yards last night before going down. If he can stay healthy, this guy still has breakout potential in 2012.

Torrey Smith BAL -WR

a more well-rounded receiver

Ravens HC John Harbaugh has been impressed by the improvement he's seen from 2nd-year WR Torrey Smith this offseason.  “He’s the most efficient improver, if that’s a word, I’ve ever seen,” Harbaugh said.  “[His] route-running’s improved. He’s improved his hands. He’s improved with understanding the blitz package, when he’s hot and when he’s not. He’s improved downfield with his blocking. Really, everything he’s gotten better.”  We know Smith can get deep.  He averaged 16.8 yards per catch last season, and he hauled in 14 balls of 20+ yards.  If he can add the short and intermediate stuff to his repertoire, he's capable of a true breakout campaign in 2012.

Torrey Smith BAL -WR

recovered from hernia surgery

Ravens WR Torrey Smith says he's "fully recovered" from February sports hernia surgery.  Smith played through the groin injury for much of the 2011 season but still finished with an impressive 16.8 yards-per-catch average.  It's a number he's capable of repeating this coming season.  The fact that he'll be able to participate in OTAs is good news for his development.

Torrey Smith BAL -WR

underwent double hernia surgery

Ravens HC John Harbaugh revealed that WR Torrey Smith underwent surgery this offseason to repair a double sports hernia.  Harbaugh said that Smith is expected to be ready for training camp but didn't provide any other details.  The lost time is concerning for a raw WR like Smith.  We'll continue to update his rehab over the course of the offseason.

Torrey Smith BAL -WR

will compete for a starting job

Ravens GM Ozzie Newsom says that 2nd-round rookie WR Torrey Smith will compete for a starting job this season.  Standing in his way is 37-year-old Derrick Mason.  Smith obviously has the speed and athleticism edge, but the veteran Mason is a better route-runner with more reliable hands.  It'll be a position battle worth monitoring this summer.

Torrey Smith BAL -WR

fills a big need in Baltimore

Baltimore snagged Maryland WR Torrey Smith with the 58th overall pick of the draft. There was talk of the Ravens eyeing Smith in the 1st-round, so they did well to get him here. Smith is a speedster, which is exactly what Baltimore’s offense has been lacking. He’ll likely begin his career in the slot, with Derrick Mason and Anquan Boldin staying outside. But Smith eventually projects as an excellent #2 WR. He’ll also provide a spark on special teams.
