J.J. Watt HOU -DL

played through elbow injury

Texans DE J.J. Watt revealed that he played through an elbow injury during the entire 2012 season.  He dislocated the elbow in August and never got back to 100%.  “In the beginning, it definitely affected me,” Watt admitted. “All the ligaments in there were torn, they were all gone, so they had to have time to recover and regroup. So obviously, I wasn’t at full strength. The brace helped a lot, but it was more of a mental thing, getting over the thought process of knowing that it was injured and making sure that I could still have confidence in it. As the season went on, I got more and more confidence in it and obviously, it didn’t hinder me too much; I had some success out there. But (I’m) looking forward to a 100 percent full healthy season.”  Despite the bum elbow, Watt racked up 81 tackles, 20.5 sacks and 16 defensed passes to capture Defensive Player of the Year honors.  Betting on another 20-sack campaign might not be wise, but it's not out of the realm of possibility either.  Watt will obviously be healthier in 2013, and he's still only 24 years old.

dislocates elbow

Adam Schefter reports that DE J.J. Watt suffered a dislocated elbow in practice this morning. Doctors were reportedly able to pop it back in, and Watt is not expected to miss much time. Frankly, he seems like one of those guys from a football movie who would prefer to pop the thing back in himself against a locker-room wall and play on. We'll see through the rest of camp whether it's an issue. Unless he proves otherwise, IDP owners should expect the strong production from the 2nd-year mean we already were.
