Matt Shaughnessy ARI -DL

back on the field and liking it

DE Matt Shaughnessy returned to the field today after missing previous offseason workouts while rehabbing his shoulder. He reportedly said it felt good to finally get back out there. Teammate Richard Seymour, meanwhile, told reporters that Shaughnessy is already the best DE in the league against the run. Seymour also called his linemate a "complete" player. Regardless of where Shaughnessy really ranks among pass rushers or run stuffers, the guy entered last season as an IDP sleeper. A shoulder injury that cost him about 13.5 games promises to only make him sleepier this time around. Shaughnessy will present a lot of upside from his likely draft position and should be an every-down player for the Raiders.

The Raiders placed DE Matt Shaughnessy on IR Wednesday because of the shoulder injury that has kept him out since Week 3. The RDE slot has been shared by Desmond Bryant and Jarvis Moss in his absence, which mitigates the fantasy upside for both.

Raiders HC Hue Jackson says DE Matt Shaughnessy "could be a little ways away" from returning from his shoulder injury. That's according to Vittorio Tafur of the San Francisco Chronicle. Shaughnessy got hurt in the Week 3 win over the Jets and hasn't seen the field since. If he can get healthy again, he brings significant IDP upside.

Jerry McDonald of The Oakland Tribune reports that DE Matt Shaughnessy suffered a shoulder injury in Sunday's matchup with the Jets. McDonald also throws Shaughnessy into a group of players who didn't miss "significant game time." Well, we weren't counting snaps, but we don't recall seeing Shaughnessy at all in the 2nd half. Jarvis Moss, meanwhile, posted 2 sacks from Shaughnessy's normal RDE spot. Either Shaughnessy's injury was bad enough to force him from the game, or the team thought Moss could give the pass rush a boost. We'll keep an eye out for reports this week. Either way, it's a situation worth watching for Shaughnessy owners.
