Charlie Batch PIT -QBnamed Week 16 starter
The Steelers have officially named QB Charlie Batch their starter for Saturday's game against the Rams. QB Ben Roethlisberger (ankle) didn't practice all week. If he's active tomorrow, it'll be as an emergency option only. Batch is a classic veteran game-manager. Pittsburgh figures to go extremely run-heavy against St. Louis, leaving Mike Wallace and Antonio Brown as borderline WR2s.
Charlie Batch PIT -QBlocks down backup job
Steelers beat writer Gerry Dulac reports that Charlie Batch will enter the season as Pittsburgh's backup QB. He beat out Dennis Dixon for the job after Byron Leftwich went down with a broken arm. Batch will obviously only have fantasy value if Ben Roethlisberger gets hurt. And even then, he'd only be a low-end QB2 option.
Charlie Batch PIT -QBwill start Week 3
QB Charlie Batch will start for the Steelers today. They figure to run the bal 30+ times against the Bucs. Batch isn't a fantasy option.
Charlie Batch PIT -QBexpected to start Week 3
Steelers HC Mike Tomlin reportedly announced during a team meeting today that QB Charlie Batch will start over Byron Leftwich in Week 3. This could change based on how the two look in practice this week. Neither guy is a fantasy option anyways.
Charlie Batch PIT -QBmay start in Week 3
Steelers HC Mike Tomlin said after Sunday's game against Tennessee that he's not sure who his starting QB will be in Week 3. ProFootballTalk.com reports that QB Dennis Dixon (knee) could have returned to the game, but they decided to stick with QB Charlie Batch. Batch is the favorite to start next week, but the team is also expected to resign QB Byron Leftwich. You should obviously stay away from this situation until QB Ben Roethlisberger is back.
Charlie Batch PIT -QBBackup Charlie Batch out 6 weeks
Steelers backup QB Charlie Batch suffered a wrist injury during Sunday's overtime period against the Chiefs. He's expected to miss 6 weeks and may be placed on IR. With QB Ben Roethlisberger dealing with a concussion, the Steelers could be in serious trouble. Next in line is QB Dennis Dixon. He's explosive with his legs but is a poor pocket passer. WRs Hines Ward and Santonio Holmes' values would take huge hits if Dixon is under center this coming week.
Charlie Batch PIT -QBBatch fractures collarbone
Steelers back-up QB Charlie Batch fractured his collarbone in the 2nd quarter of tonight's game against the Eagles. Batch will be out anywhere from 4-8 weeks. With rookie QB Dennis Dixon now the 2nd-string QB, the Steelers are in the market for additional QB depth. They will reportedly work out Byron Leftwich on Saturday. Chris Simms is also likely available.
Charlie Batch PIT -QBSteelers/Ravens in rain
It's raining in Baltimore although the wind is light and the temperature is above 40 degrees.
Charlie Batch PIT -QBRoethlisberger is questionable
Ben Roethlisberger (shoulder) practiced fully on Friday but still drew a "questionable" tag on the injury report. That is uncool. We'll know Roethlisberger's status Sunday morning. If you can still make moves it might be wise to handcuff Charlie Batch.
Charlie Batch PIT -QBFree Agent Focus: Charlie Batch
ESPN reports Ben Roethliberger's MRI was negative. They are concerned because he just had major reconstructive surgery for facial fractures 4 months ago. Charlie Batch stepped in for Roethlisberger and threw for 195 yards & 2 TDs in 22 minutes. "We knew we were going to have some success in the air and I always like to think the game plan is not going to change when I get in there," Batch said. "When the pass plays started to come in, I was like, hey, let's go." On the season Batch now has 5 TD passes & 0 INTs. If Roethlisberger can't go in Oakland this Sunday we'd definitely endorse Batch in any size league. The Steelers WRs were like a swarm of bees in the Georgia Dome yesterday.
Charlie Batch PIT -QBBig Ben practices
Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger practiced Thursday but split reps with Charlie Batch. "He feels better than he did yesterday," Bill Cowher said. "We'll see how he feels after traveling across the country." It will be a GTD... if just to keep Oakland guessing.
Charlie Batch PIT -QBBatch starts for Steelers
Charlie Batch will start tomorrow vs. Miami. Ben Roethlisberger (appendectomy) is out for Week 1, possibly next week too. Not the greatest news for Pittsburgh, who couldn't consistently make 1st downs with Batch last year. In an ugly 20-10 win over Green Bay, Batch was helped by a 77-yard Troy Polamalu fumble-return. In a 34-21 win over Cleveland it took a 51-yard pass from Antwaan Randle-El to get Hines Ward into the end zone.
Charlie Batch PIT -QBBatch delivers in opener
Charlie Batch played surprisingly well in the pressure-packed opener vs. Miami, despite only 4 days of starter preparation. He made the right reads over and over. Batch hit 15-of-25 passes for 209 yards & 3 TDs, including one of the best throws we've seen in a while, the 27-yard TD to WR Nate Washington. Batch fired a laser to the corner where Washington could shield off the defender and snatch the football. Batch could have cost Pittsburgh the game when he fumbled at the 1-yard line with 12:00 to go -- but the defense held true and got the ball back. Next play: an 87-yard TD (sort of) to Heath Miller. Sources are reporting that Ben Roethlisberger (appendix) will be ready for Week 2 (10 days from now) but at least OC Ken Whisenhunt knows Batch can execute the plan.
