DFS Showdown Tips: Saints-Raiders

By Matt Schauf 12:09am EDT 9/21/20

A Saints offense that looked a bit sluggish in Week 1 now must go without Michael Thomas … at least for this Monday night visit to Las Vegas.

The Raiders, meanwhile, don’t know yet whether they’ll have 1st-round rookie Henry Ruggs available. Those who do play will face a Saints defense that has been tough on the run and in TE coverage recently.

The Vegas defense, on the other hand, allowed the Panthers nearly 400 total yards in their Week 1 meeting.

Let’s look at who might present value in the Monday night showdown …

DraftKings

Josh Hill has been with the Saints since 2013. He caught a career-high 25 passes last season. And just last week, he played only 8 fewer snaps than lead TE Jared Cook (44-36). According to Pro Football Focus, Hill spent 26 of those 36 snaps blocking, running just 10 pass routes to Cook’s 24. But it wouldn’t take altering alignments to add some receiving work for the veteran TE now that Thomas is out.

That Thomas play volume figures to spread in multiple directions, of course. At WR, Smith’s big-play profile and $2400 in salary savings vs. Emmanuel Sanders makes him attractive.

The down performance from this Saints offense in Week 1 also makes Wil Lutz a bit more attractive. Don’t be afraid to toss both of these kickers into a showdown lineup.

You won't find Taysom Hill in the chart because we don't usually project him. Hill just doesn't fit into regular fantasy football. But he's always worth considering in Saints showdowns. And Hill's $2200 salary makes him a solid option.

FanDuel

We’ll see how this year’s Saints defense develops, but last year’s version stifled the run while playing the pass just solidly. Combine that with his low propensity for turnovers, and it makes sense to see Carr up top over here. He checks in $3000 cheaper in FD salary, with not all that different a fantasy projection.
