Preseason Week 3 Notes

By Jared Smola 10:08pm EDT 8/24/18

This will be updated throughout Week 3 of the preseason, so keep checking back for updates. And if you missed them ...

Week 1 Notes

Week 2 Notes

* Browns 1st-team RB snaps:

Carlos Hyde: 20

Duke Johnson: 17

Nick Chubb: 1

(Johnson played 9 straight snaps in a 2-minute drill to close the 1st half.)

* Panthers RB Christian McCaffrey again dominated 1st-team work, seeing all 14 RB touches (12 carries, 2 catches) in the 1st half. It sure looks like he's in line to play a workhorse role this season.

* Panthers QB Cam Newton's target distribution:

Greg Olsen: 5

Christian McCaffrey: 2

Devin Funchess: 2

Torrey Smith: 2

Jarius Wright: 2

Curtis Samuel: 2

D.J. Moore: 1

* Patriots QB Tom Brady's target distribution:

Julian Edelman: 5

Phillip Dorsett: 4

James White: 2

Cordarrelle Patterson: 2

Rob Gronkowski: 1

Chris Hogan: 1

Brandon Bolden: 1

James Develin: 1

Will Tye: 1

* RB Bilal Powell again got the start for the Jets. He received all 5 carries on New York's 1st possession. Isaiah Crowell entered on the 2nd possession and ended up with 6 opportunities (carries + targets) vs. Powell's 11 with the 1st-team offense. This backfield is murky heading into the start of the season.

* Jets QB Sam Darnold's target distribution:

Quincy Enunwa: 3

Robby Anderson: 2

Isaiah Crowell: 2

Terrelle Pryor: 2

Neal Sterling: 2

Bilal Powell: 1

Chris Herndon: 1

Clive Walford: 1

* Broncos RB opportunities (carries + targets) with the 1st-team offense:

Royce Freeman: 5

Devontae Booker: 3

Phillip Lindsay: 3

* Broncos QB Case Keenum's target distribution:

Emmanuel Sanders: 8

Demaryius Thomas: 4

Courtland Sutton: 3

Jeff Heuerman: 1

Phillip Lindsay: 1

Jake Butt: 1

* Vikings QB Kirk Cousins' target distribution:

Stefon Diggs: 8

Latavius Murray: 7

Adam Thielen: 6

Laquon Treadwell: 3

C.J. Ham: 2

Kyle Rudolph: 1

Dalvin Cook: 1

* Redskins RB Adrian Peterson got lots of run with the 1st-team offense -- and looked good. He finished with 56 yards on 11 carries. RB Rob Kelley, meanwhile, played just 3 snaps with the starters and mustered 19 yards on 8 carries.

* Lions QB Matt Stafford's target distribution:

Kenny Golladay: 5

Golden Tate: 4

Theo Riddick: 3

Marvin Jones: 2

Hakeem Valles: 2

Ameer Abdullah: 1

Levine Toilolo: 1

* Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes' target distribution vs. the Bears:

Tyreek Hill: 8

Sammy Watkins: 4

Spencer Ware: 3

Chris Conley: 3

Travis Kelce: 2

Kareem Hunt: 1

De'Anthony Thomas: 1

Demarcus Robinson: 1

* And Mahomes' target distribution in all 3 preseason games:

Tyreek Hill: 14

Travis Kelce: 8

Sammy Watkins: 7

Kareem Hunt: 5

Spencer Ware: 3

Chris Conley: 3

De'Anthony Thomas: 1

Demarcus Robinson: 1

* Titans' RB opportunities (carries + targets) with the 1st-team offense:

Dion Lewis: 6

Derrick Henry: 5

* Colts RB opportunities (carries + targets) with the 1st-team offense:

Jordan Wilkins: 5

Christine Michael: 5

Nyheim Hines: 2

* Colts QB Andrew Luck's target distribution:

T.Y. Hilton: 3

Eric Ebron: 3

Chester Rogers: 1

Jordan Wilkins: 1

Darrel Daniels: 1

Ryan Grant: 1

* 49ers QB Jimmy Garoppolo's target distribution:

Marquise Goodwin: 4

Pierre Garcon: 3

Garrett Celek: 3

Cole Hikutini: 2

Trent Taylor: 2

Kyle Juszczyk: 2

Kendrick Bourne: 1

Raheem Mostert: 1

Cole Wick: 1

* The 49ers fed RB Alfred Morris 17 times vs. the Colts -- and he responded by racking up 84 yards (4.9 YPC). Morris looked like a guy capable of making a fantasy impact if he gets a shot this season. RBs Jerick McKinnon (calf) and Matt Breida (shoulder) remain sidelined.

* Jaguars QB Blake Bortles' target distribution:

Donte Moncrief: 5

T.J. Yeldon: 4

Dede Westbrook: 3

Leonard Fournette: 3

Austin Seferian-Jenkins: 2

Marqise Lee: 1

Keelan Cole: 1

D.J. Chark: 1

Corey Grant: 1

Tommy Bohanon: 1

James O'Shaughnessy: 1

* WR Austin Carr ran with the QB Drew Brees and the Saints' 1st-team offense -- ahead of Cameron Meredith and Tre'Quan Smith. We're still expecting Meredith to eventually capture that gig, but he'll be difficult to trust in early-season fantasy lineups.

* Bengals QB Andy Dalton connected on 11 of 18 passes for 180 yards and 2 TDs in Sunday's preseason game against the Bills. That damage came in just 5 series. Dalton found WR John Ross for a 57-yard score on the 1st play of the game and later connected with WR A.J. Green for a 14-yard TD.

* Bengals RB opportunities (carries + targets) with the 1st-team offense:

Joe Mixon: 6

Gio Bernard: 5
