Take This Guy with Your Last 2017 Pick

By Matt Schauf 8:09am EDT 9/4/17

Let’s be honest. Most of us will save that last-round pick for a kicker or a defense – as it should be.

But how pissed would you be if you clicked the article link and it only said, “Kicker or defense. Duh.”

So I checked through recent ADP for players lasting into Round 16 and beyond and picked out 12 late-round options who just might offer value well beyond where you can pick them up.

The 2015 version of this article featured Lions RB Theo Riddick, who leaped from a RB63 ADP to finish 18th at the position in PPR scoring that season. Then-rookie WR Tyler Lockett also made the list, and finished top 43 across formats after going 57th among WRs in ADP.

Last year’s edition went by the title “Preseason Pickups” but served the same purpose and highlighted Dak Prescott and Mike Wallace. The Cowboys QB, of course, went from a QB26 ADP to fantasy’s #9 QB scorer in his debut season. Wallace rose from 62nd in WR ADP – just behind Bruce Ellington – to top-25 finishes across fantasy formats.

Of course, there’s also a reason these guys are hanging around until the end of your drafts (or going undrafted). If this was a bucket full of league winners, then we’d be pushing you to pick them well before the last round. So don’t miss out on a Week 1 or Week 2 waiver gem while stubbornly assuring yourself that the breakout is coming.

Now, here are 12 guys to consider with your final fantasy football draft pick this week – grouped by position rather than ranked overall …

Blake Bortles, QB, Jaguars

Even Jaguars HC Doug Marrone is talking himself into Bortles, after sliding him behind Chad Henne for the 3rd preseason game.

It’s the best I’ve seen him,” Marron said of the QB’s practice performance since being renamed the starter.

Will Bortles ever be a good QB? Nah. We certainly wouldn’t bet anything on it. But the guy has finished 8th and 4th among fantasy passers as a bad QB the past 2 years. He’s an obvious (and big) fantasy value at his current price. And he could remind us of that quickly, with home games against Tennessee and Baltimore in weeks 2 and 3, followed by a visit to the Jets.
