We know less about the 2018 season right now than we will all year. That can make Week 1 DraftKings a little intimidating.
But remember that our opponents know no more than we do. In fact, they probably know even less. We’ve spent the past 6 months studying last year’s stats, personnel moves and coaching changes. And we learned plenty from the preseason. So the advantage goes to us.
A note before we get to the picks: We’ve partnered with FanShare Sports this season to bring you weekly ownership projections. We’ll have them by Saturday morning, so I’ll be making updates to this article (specifically the tournament targets) every Saturday.
On to the Week 1 picks …
Play of the Week and Value Option: Andy Dalton, Bengals ($5,800)
If you’ve never heard of those guys, don’t feel bad. I actually had to look up the Colts’ depth chart to see who they planned on using at CB this week. Turns out it’s those 4 guys listed above. This looks like the worst secondary in the league.
Dalton benefits in Week 1. And he’s coming off an impressive preseason that saw him complete 71.0% of his passes, average 10.5 yards per attempt and toss 4 TDs vs. 1 INT. With TE Tyler Eifert and WR John Ross healthy, his weaponry is more explosive than it was at any point last year.
It looks like Dalton will be 1 of the highest-owned QBs this week, so he’s a better cash game play. But he can still be used in tournaments considering the upside he brings vs. the price tag.
