Week 14 IDP Free Agent Focus
B.J. Hill, DL, Giants
Hill had already gained a regular presence in our weekly DL rankings with increased tackle production since the Damon Harrison trade. His playing time has climbed since then, to above 70% in 2 straight entering Sunday.
Hill has gone from 2.6 tackles per game over the 1st 7 weeks to 4.0 over the past 5. He put himself squarely into view for everyone Sunday with 3 sacks in the surprising victory over the Bears.
Don’t expect a whole lot more in that category from a guy with just 2 sacks and 10 total pressures (according to Pro Football Focus) through Week 12. But a Week 14 matchup with Washington and its backup set of guards presents tackle and sack upside for Hill. You also might want to stick with Hill for a Week 15 clash with the Titans.
Lavonte David, LB, Buccaneers
This one’s a “just in case” inclusion. David hit Week 13 questionable after missing the previous 2 games with an MCL sprain. The missed time pushed him outside the top 30 fantasy LBs heading into the week, in a season that hasn’t seen David put up big numbers even when healthy.
But he announced his return with 12 tackles (10 solo), a sack and a pass breakup in Sunday’s win over the Panthers. It was David’s 1st full sack and just his 2nd PD of the year.
The next 3 weeks bring a Saints offense that should at least present plenty of tackle opportunities and then a pair of offenses -- Baltimore and Dallas -- that entered Week 13 as top-12 scoring matchups for LBs.
Deion Jones, MLB, Falcons
Similarly, Jones should have been picked up everywhere heading into his return game Sunday. His big return against the Ravens should guarantee he comes off the waiver wire in the rest of the leagues. Jones racked up 15 tackles and a sack in Sunday’s loss to Baltimore. He’s a stud when healthy.
Gerald Hodges, MLB, Cardinals
Hodges followed last week’s 10-tackle breakthrough when MLB Josh Bynes went down with 13 tackles (12 solo) in his 1st start Sunday in place of Bynes. Hodges should be a good tackle bet going forward.
Jordan Whitehead, S, Buccaneers
Whitehead reached 7 tackles Sunday for the 3rd straight time, even with the return of FS Justin Evans. (Evans missed the previous 2 games with a toe injury.) Whitehead should be set up for more tackles in Week 14’s clash with the Saints.
