Week 4 FanDuel Cash-Game Picks

By Kevin English 1:05pm EDT 9/30/22

QB

Josh Allen, Bills ($8,900) at Ravens

QB looks tough this week…at least outside of the position’s elites.

So I’m OK with paying up for Allen, who’s averaging 30 FD points through 3 games. Despite some injuries along the O-line -- and a questionable Gabe Davis (ankle) — I like Allen’s chances of returning value against a shaky Baltimore secondary.

Buffalo’s currently implied for a week-high 27 points.

If you’re looking to take a cheaper route, consider a discounted Kyler Murray ($7,800) at Carolina.

RB

Jonathan Taylor, Colts ($8,700) vs. Titans

JT's underperformed overall, but that largely comes down to his 1 TD through 3 games. That number should rise soon, as he ranks T-2nd league-wide in red zone opportunities (carries + targets).

Next up is a Titans run D that ranks 3rd-worst in adjusted fantasy points allowed.

Jamaal Williams, Lions (7,400) vs. Seahawks

The Lions will be without Amon-Ra St. Brown and D’Andre Swift on Sunday. So not only does Williams get a nice boost in projected carries — he should see an extra target or 2 as well.

Overall, the Seahawks defense ranks 30th in Football Outsiders’ DVOA. So scoring chances should remain for Williams, who's already punched in 4 TDs. Like Jonathan Taylor, he’s up to 12 red zone opportunities.

Najee Harris, Steelers ($7,000) vs. Jets

Jets-Steelers really isn’t a game I’m excited to attack. But Harris’ price is tough to ignore.

Pittsburgh enters as 3.5-point home favorites to face a Jets squad that profiles as mid-pack against the run. Another 15+ carries (and 3-5 targets) are likely here — again, at a discount.

Khalil Herbert ($7,200) projects as a value, assuming David Montgomery is out. The Giants have performed as a bottom-5 fantasy run D through 3 games.

WR

Davante Adams, Raiders ($7,900) vs. Broncos

Among WRs, Adams ranks #1 in $/per point on the main slate.

He’s just not a $7,900 WR, despite a negative matchup vs. Denver. And even with his recent struggles, Adams has scored in every game and ranks 2nd league-wide in end zone targets (6).

CeeDee Lamb, Cowboys ($6,800) vs. Commanders

Lamb feels like a layup this week. Not only because he’s underpriced relative to his talent profile. Or even that he’s facing a Washington secondary that’s allowing the 3rd-most adjusted fantasy points to enemy WRs.

Lamb has simply produced alongside Cooper Rush. In 3 games with Rush (going back to 2021) Lamb has tallied lines of 6-112, 7-75 and 8-87-1.

Brandin Cooks, Texans ($6,400) vs. Chargers

Cooks draws a Chargers defense that will be without EDGE Joey Bosa and perhaps CB J.C. Jackson. Sure, it’s a been a rough year so far for the veteran pass catcher, but his underlying numbers remain strong.

A full-time player, his 27% target share says he’ll soon improve upon his current 13-158 line. Houston’s currently 5-point home underdogs, which signals plenty of passing against a Chargers squad that could get back Keenan Allen.

Hold your nose on this one, but…D.J. Moore ($6100) will be worth a look if Christian McCaffrey is ruled out. CMC would take away ~4.5 targets per game. Moore's underperformed significantly alongside a struggling Baker Mayfield, but the matchup (Arizona) and price push the WR more toward cash game consideration.

TE

T.J. Hockenson, Lions ($5,400) vs. Seahawks

You’re not playing Hockenson for what he’s done so far — he’s tallied only 82 yards on 18 targets.

Yuck.

This week, though, with D’Andre Swift and Amon-Ra St. Brown sidelined, the TE should see a boost in production. So look for Hockenson’s 16.7% target share to jump up a bit. That could turn into scoring chances in a game that finds Detroit with an implied total of 26 — 2nd highest on the main slate.

DEF

Given the spend-ups at QB, RB and WR, we’ll need to save quite a bit on defense. Arizona ($3,200) at Carolina and Las Vegas ($3,000) vs. Denver supply viable options. As noted, the Panthers might be without Christian McCaffrey due to a thigh injury. Vegas gets an underperforming Broncos offense and a QB in Russell Wilson who’s taken 3 sacks per game.
