Bills TE Dawson Knox did not work out if you picked him up and used him against the Titans last week, but I’m not writing that up as a total loss.
The rookie caught just 2 passes for 12 yards to finish outside the position’s top 30 across fantasy formats. He didn’t even lead Bills TEs in fantasy points. Lee Smith did. But that’s part of the point here.
All Smith did was luck into a TD catch on his only target of the day, from 8 yards out. He even played a season-low snap share (32%).
Knox, meanwhile, played a season-high 72.3%. That marked his 3rd straight week of growth in the category. Knox also drew a season-high 5 targets, tying for 9th at the position for the week and tying for the lead among Bills.
Am I going through this just to play some “See? I wasn’t wrong!”? Nah. (Well, maybe a little.) My real point here is that we need to make sure not to overlook the context and focus too closely on results. There will be many instances throughout a season where we make a good choice that just doesn’t pan out. That’s how this game works.
So if you picked up Knox last week and he let you down, that doesn’t necessarily mean it’s time to toss him back onto the junk heap. Consider giving him another shot. Just not this week, though. He’s on bye.
These options just might be available, however …
