The Raiders have released LB Derrick Johnson. The veteran's playing time had dwindled to just about a quarter of the defensive snaps over the past 3 games, so his departure shouldn't mean much for the Oakland defense. It could, however, mean a further playing-time boost for Marquel Lee, the 2nd-year LB who had supplanted Johnson as the middle starter. Though their snap counts didn't correlate directly over the past 4 games, they came pretty close. Lee will be interesting to watch for IDP purposes. He's only an add in deep/dynasty formats right now.

The Chiefs have confirmed the Thursday night fear: LB Derrick Johnson suffered a ruptured left Achilles' tendon in the win over the Raiders. That at least costs him the rest of the season and might prematurely end the veteran's career. The 34-year-old came back from a ruptured right Achilles' tendon last season, but he had suffered that injury in Week 1 of the prior year. That's about 3 months lead time on the recovery/rehab process vs. this season. Kansas City replaced Johnson with S/LB Nick Sorensen against Oakland, and the Raiders promptly attacked his area on the ground. We'll see what the Chiefs do going forward. Options include D.J. Alexander as well as Josh Mauga and Justin March, who are currently on IR but could be designated to return.

Chiefs ILB Derrick Johnson left in the 2nd quarter of Thursday night's game after suffering a left leg injury. Johnson went down without contact after trying to drive off the leg. He immediately pulled his helmet off and sat on the field, shaking his head. Trainers helped Johnson off the field, with his left shoe off and no weight being put on the injured leg. We'll see about the official diagnosis, but this one looks serious.

Update: Johnson is out for the game with a left Achilles' injury.

Chiefs LB Derrick Johnson (Achilles'), CB Marcus Peters (hip) and NT Dontari Poe (back) are active for tonight's game against the Chiefs after entering today questionable. CB Steven Nelson (neck) is inactive after also entering Sunday questionable.

Chiefs CB Marcus Peters (hip) is out for today's game against the Buccaneers. He joins DE Jaye Howard (hip) -- who was doubtful -- on the inactive list. The other questionable defensive starters are active: LB Derrick Johnson (hamstring), CB Phillip Gaines (neck), NT Dontari Poe (knee) and OLB Justin Houston (knee). Houston will make his season debut after opening the year on the PUP list.

The Chiefs will likely miss DE Jaye Howard (hip) Sunday against the Buccaneers. He missed practice all week after sitting out the Week 10 game and is listed as doubtful. LB Derrick Johnson (hamstring), CB Marcus Peters (hip), CB Phillip Gaines (neck), Justin Houston (knee) and Dontari Poe (knee) are all questionable. Houston's expected to play for the 1st time this season after putting in full practices Wednesday and Thursday. Peters, on the other hand, didn't practice at all this week and looks quite iffy. Johnson put in a limited practice Friday after sitting out Wednesday and Thursday. He played through the hamstring issue in Week 10. Poe practiced on a limited basis Thursday but sat out the other 2 days. Gaines put in limited workouts all week. We'll check on each player's status Sunday.

Chiefs LB Derrick Johnson (hamstring) is active for today's game at Carolina. Start him as you normally would in your IDP league, though the situation adds some re-injury risk.

Chiefs LB Derrick Johnson is questionable for Sunday's game at Carolina with a hamstring injury that limited his practice time all week. He appeared on the Week 9 injury report with the same issue, but Johnson put in a full practice last Friday after 2 limited days. We'll watch his status Sunday morning. The situation adds some risk, but a healthy Johnson ranks among the league's best fantasy LBs.

ESPN reports that Chiefs LB Derrick Johnson will re-sign with the team on a 3-year, $21 million deal, with $9 million guaranteed. Johnson returned from 2015's torn Achilles' tendon to play all 16 games and deliver a strong fantasy season. He'll head into 2016 as an LB1 candidate for IDP drafts.

Chiefs HC Andy Reid said Friday that he expects to have LB Derrick Johnson and DL Mike DeVito ready for "phase one" of the team's offseason program. Both players ruptured Achilles' tendons in the 2014 opener and missed the rest of the season. Reid conceded that they'll need to "see how things roll" in the continued rehab for both players, but the outlook seems good. The early timing of the injuries can only help. That said, we'll likely head into 2015 expecting something less than his usual performance from Johnson. Torn Achilles' regularly affect players even in their return seasons, and the star LB turned 32 in November. We'll keep an eye on his offseason with our 2015 IDP rankings in mind. DeVito's not a big IDP option but would help a soft K.C. run D even at less than full power.

Chiefs LB Derrick Johnson will miss the rest of the season after suffering an Achilles' tendon tear in the opener, according to multiple sources.  James-Michael Johnson stepped in for Derrick Johnson on Sunday.  The Chiefs were already missing the other starting ILB, Joe Mays.  JMJ could deliver some sneaky IDP value going forward.

Chiefs ILB Derrick Johnson is playing through a hamstring injury today. The situation obviously adds risk, but he also faces a strongly positive matchup in the Browns. It's up to fantasy owners to weigh the risk vs. reward.

Chiefs CB Brandon Flowers (thigh), LB Derrick Johnson (thigh), and DE Turk McBride (shoulder) are listed as questionable against the San Diego Chargers.

Chiefs LB Derrick Johnson is out today. Keyaron Fox (24 tackles in 3 weeks) is making IDP noise in his place.

Chiefs LB Derrick Johnson (ankle) is questionable for week 11 per Herman Edwards.

Chiefs LB Derrick Johnson (ankle) has been downgraded to out. A big loss, with his 32 solo tackles & 4.5 sacks on the pine. Keyaron Fox will step in but he's not going to mimic Johnson's numbers.
