Jets ILB C.J. Mosley has opted out for the upcoming season, according to multiple reports. That removes the Jets' big free-agent addition from last offseason for the 2nd straight year. Mosley missed basically all of 2019 after suffering a groin injury in the 1st half of the opener. The defense does get back ILB Avery Williamson from the ACL tear that cost him last season. Neville Hewitt, Blake Cashman and offseason addition Patrick Onwuasor figure to compete for Mosley's role. Williamson gets a big boost to his fantasy ceiling. He finished top 15 among fantasy LBs in 2018 and certainly has that potential again.
Jets ILB Avery Williamson tore his right ACL in Thursday night's preseason game against the Falcons and will miss the season, according to multiple reports. Neville Hewitt sits next on the current "unofficial" depth chart, though rookie Blake Cashman could compete for the spot. The injury leaves C.J. Mosley as the only draftable Jets LB in most IDP leagues.
Titans ILB Avery Williamson is inactive for today's game against the Dolphins because of a hamstring injury. That should leave Wesley Woodyard and Zach Brown starting in his place. Neither makes for a strong IDP starting option, but both bring some upside in deeper fantasy football leagues.
Titans LB Avery Williamson is questionable for Sunday's game against the Dolphins with a hamstring injury that limited his practice time this week. “It’s progressing a little each day,” Williamson said Friday, according to The Associated Press. "I guess we’ll find out tomorrow. I’ll have to see how I feel after today, but it’s still a little sore.” We'll update his status Sunday, but you can probably find a better option for your IDP lineup.
Titans LB Zach Brown missed some tackles in Friday night's game against the Chiefs. Afterward, HC Ken Whisenhunt called them "unacceptable," according to Jim Wyatt of Titans Online. Brown has the physical ability to deliver strong numbers to IDP lineups, but he entered the league with concerns about his tackling and will likely come off the field before fellow ILB Avery Williamson in some sub packages this season. That chips away at his fantasy upside. Brown's an upside reserve, but Williamson's a better IDP bet.
Titans rookie LB Avery Williamson took over play-calling duties from veteran LB Wesley Woodyard for Sunday's loss to the Browns. Williamson still played 2 fewer snaps than Woodyard for the game but was on the field in some sub packages, a few times as the only LB out there. It's the 2nd straight week his role has grown significantly after a Week 3 debut. Week 5 also gave us a 2nd straight 7-tackle outing with 6 solos from Williamson, who added 2 passes defensed against Cleveland. Williamson makes for an interesting waiver option in moderately deep IDP leagues. His profile's clearly on the rise in the middle of a bad defense with reason to try to usher in the future. We'll see whether Wesley Woodyard's playing time starts to decrease, though it's not time to panic if you own him in your IDP league.
