Browns OLB Barkevious Mingo will have "minor" knee surgery and miss "at least a couple of weeks," according to Scott Petrak of the Elyria Chronicle-Telegram. That might make it tough for the former top-10 pick to finally nail down a full starting role, especially given that rookie OLB Nate Orchard has pleased his new team. Mingo's getting harder to believe in even for dynasty IDP use. He registered just 7 total sacks over his 1st 2 seasons but is still signed through 2016, with a club option for 2017.
The Browns will go without LB Jabaal Sheard for the 3rd straight week because of a knee injury. Sheard put in limited practices this week and said he was excited to return, but the knee apparently isn't quite ready for action yet. First-round pick Barkevious Mingo has started in his absence and delivered sacks in 3 of his 4 games (after missing Week 1).
Browns rookie LB Barkevious Mingo will make his 1st pro start vs. Cincinnati today. Regular starter LB Jabaal Sheard is out with a knee injury. Mingo played about 52% of the team's defensive snaps over the 1st 2 weeks but tallied a sack in each game. He's an upside option in big-play IDP leagues for Week 4.
Browns rookie LB Barkevious Mingo will spend a 2nd straight night in the hospital Friday after suffering a bruised lung in Thursday night's meeting with the Lions. The Cleveland Plain Dealer reports that he's expected to miss a week or 2 of action but that the team's optimistic he'll be ready for the regular season. Mingo isn't likely to grab a starting job early in the year but should play a key role in the Browns' pass rush.
The Browns stayed at #6 and drafted LSU OLB Barkevious Mingo. The selection sure looks damning for Jabaal Sheard. The former 2nd-round pick became an OLB when Cleveland switched from a 4-3 scheme to 3-4 this offseason. Sheard has said he feels comfy with the change, but the new Browns regime would likely prefer that Mingo win the starting job. Free-agent addition Paul Kruger will lock down the other spot.
