Giants WR Sterling Shepard (concussion) is set to return for Sunday’s game against the Bucs. WR Cody Latimer (concussion) is out, and WR Bennie Fowler (hamstring) is questionable. Shepard, TE Evan Engram and RB Saquon Barkley should dominate targets in QB Daniel Jones’ debut.
Giants WR Golden Tate has been suspended 4 games for violating the league’s policy on performance enhancing substances. Per Tate, the substance that triggered the positive test came from fertility medication. He’ll appeal the ruling on August 6. Tate can still practice and play in preseason games, and that time will be essential as he adjusts to a new offense. But his loss would further cripple an already thin Giants WR corps following the losses of Sterling Shepard and Corey Coleman. Next up on the depth chart: Cody Latimer, Russell Shepard, Bennie Fowler and rookie Darius Slayton. Saquon Barkley and Evan Engram will be busy.
Giants WR Corey Coleman will miss the entire 2019 season after tearing his ACL in Thursday's practice. The former 1st-rounder was the favorite for #3 duties but will now hit free agency in 2020 coming off a serious injury. Rookie Darius Slayton, Cody Latimer, Bennie Fowler and Russell Shepard will now duke it out for that #3 WR job. None is worth a pick in fantasy drafts.
Broncos WR Cody Latimer told The Denver Post that he's feeling good physically heading into his 3rd season after taking good care of his body in the offseason. As for the mental side, the former 2nd-round pick also says he has gained confidence. “I was very hesitant,” he said of his first two NFL seasons. “Was worried about what everybody thought — was Peyton (Manning) going to be mad, was coach going to be mad. I was very nervous out there. Going out here now, especially in my third year, I’m confident in myself. I know what I can do. I just go out there and make plays.” That can certainly only help a player who has caught just 8 total passes over his 1st 2 seasons. Latimer will have to continue proving himself before fantasy football owners can expect any relevance. But WR Bennie Fowler will now miss at least a few weeks after suffering an elbow fracture, according to the Post, which should leave Latimer in the lead for the #3 role. That's not an exciting spot in an offense with Mark Sanchez and Trevor Siemian competing to start at QB. But Latimer's a no-risk shot at the end of your draft with plenty of physical ability.
Broncos WR Bennie Fowler suffered a "small fracture" in his elbow in the team's preseason opener and will be out "a few weeks," according to insider Jeff Legwold. Fowler is currently in the lead for the #3 WR job. His absence could give WR Cody Latimer a shot to claim that spot. The former 2nd-round pick had a solid showing in the 1st exhibition, hauling in 7 balls for 82 yards. WR Jordan Norwood could also be in the mix.
Broncos WR Emmanuel Sanders (ankle, finger) won’t play against the Bears today, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport. Sanders was expected to be available but reportedly didn’t fare well in pregame warmups. His role will be filled by some combination of Cody Latimer, Bennie Fowler and Andre Caldwell. None is a recommended fantasy play. WR Demaryius Thomas will dominate targets.
