Blaine Gabbert Fantasy Football News 2019

Buccaneers QB Blaine Gabbert dislocated his left (non-throwing) shoulder in Friday night's preseason game against the Browns. "His shoulder popped out," HC Bruce Arians said after the game, according to ESPN. "He was hurting pretty good, but [I told him], 'Good thing it's not your throwing shoulder. You'll be all right.'" Arians said the Bucs would seek another QB before the preseason finale, but this doesn't seem like an issue that should keep Gabbert out into the regular season. Of course, Gabbert's status only matters if Jameis Winston goes down.

The Buccaneers have signed QB Blaine Gabbert, according to The Athletic. He'll now back up QB Jameis Winston after playing the same role with the 49ers, Cardinals and Titans previously. Tennessee's trade for Ryan Tannehill replaced Gabbert there. Gabbert previously played under new Bucs HC Bruce Arians with the 2017 Cardinals, where he went 2-3 in 5 starts.

Titans QB Marcus Mariota (stinger) is inactive for tonight’s game against the Colts. Blaine Gabbert gets the start in a win-or-go-home situation. What a world.

Titans QB Marcus Mariota (stinger) is not expected to play against the Colts tonight, ESPN's Chris Mortensen reports. Mariota is listed as questionable and is expected to work out pregame before a final decision is made. But an independent spine specialist has reportedly warned the Titans that further damage to Mariota's nerve could impact his ability to throw long term. So it looks like it'll be Blaine Gabbert under center for tonight's must-win game. Expect a whole bunch of RB Derrick Henry when Tennessee has the ball.

Titans QB Marcus Mariota (stinger) is listed as questionable for Sunday night’s game against the Colts. He put in limited practices on Thursday and Friday and will likely be a game-time decision. If Mariota is unable to go, it’ll be Blaine Gabbert under center. Avoid this situation in Week 17 fantasy lineups.

Titans QB Marcus Mariota (elbow) did not practice on Wednesday. “Just taking it day to day,” he said in a radio appearance prior to practice. “I am doing my best, (trying) to get back. That’s all I can do. I’ll do everything in my power to see if I can go. Again, it is just taking it one day at a time.” We'll track Mariota's progress over the next few days, but there's a good chance it's Blaine Gabbert under center for Sunday night's must-win game against the Colts.

Titans QB Marcus Mariota suffered what the team is calling a stinger late in the 1st half of Saturday's game against the Redskins and did not return. QB Blaine Gabbert played the 2nd half, completing 7 of 11 passes for 101 yards and a score in Tennessee's comeback win. Mariota has been dealing with elbow problems all season and seems iffy for Week 17. We'll keep an eye on his status next week.

Titans QB Blaine Gabbert sustained a concussion in the 1st quarter of Sunday's game against the Jaguars. That's forced Tennessee to turn to QB Marcus Mariota, who is still dealing with his elbow injury.

Titans QB Marcus Mariota (elbow) is active for today’s game against the Jaguars but is expected to back up QB Blaine Gabbert. Avoid this situation in fantasy lineups.

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport hears that Titans QB Marcus Mariota (elbow) is not expected to play against the Jaguars today. He "has not experienced enough improvement" in that throwing elbow, according to Rapoport. So QB Blaine Gabbert gets another start in a brutal matchup. Your best bet is to avoid Tennessee's passing game today.

Titans QB Marcus Mariota (elbow) is listed as questionable for this weekend’s game against the Jaguars. He was limited in practice all week and reportedly still wasn't throwing with his normal velocity. HC Mike Vrabel said Friday that he’d make a decision on Mariota’s status by Saturday night. At less than 100% and in a brutal matchup, Mariota shouldn’t be in your Week 3 fantasy plans. QB Blaine Gabbert will get another start if Mariota can’t go.

Former NFL team doctor and now sports medical analyst David Chao doesn't believe Marcus Mariota's elbow is as "close" to a return to normal as the QB says. "The ulnar nerve injury affects the ability to strongly grip the football and flex (actively bend) the wrist for follow-through," Chao writes. "This injury thereby affects accuracy – especially when pushing the ball down field – and makes it difficult to throw tight spirals." He adds that "the physiology of nerve recovery is that it either returns quickly or it lingers." This doesn't mean that Mariota can't play. If it did, the Titans obviously wouldn't have him on the active roster. But it does mean we probably shouldn't expect Mariota to start in Week 3, and his throws might be impacted into October. We'll keep watching the situation, but Mariota's current status makes him droppable in some fantasy leagues.

Titans QB Marcus Mariota (elbow) is active for today’s game against the Texans. He’s dealing with a pinched nerve in his elbow and reportedly didn’t throw much in pregame warmups. It sounds like QB Blaine Gabbert will get the start here. Avoid the situation in fantasy lineups.

Titans QB Marcus Mariota didn't throw much in pregame warmups and is still struggling to grip the football, ESPN's Adam Schefter reports. "It's looking like" QB Blaine Gabbert will start against the Texans, Schefter adds. We'll find out Mariota's official status by noon ET, but you should be avoiding this situation. Corey Davis is a low-end WR3 for Week 2 if Gabbert is under center.

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport hears that Titans QB Marcus Mariota (elbow) will "try to play" against the Texans today. Mariota is reportedly dealing with a pinched nerve in that elbow and still hasn't regained complete feeling in his fingers. "There is no telling how he’ll respond," Rapoport adds. "That’s why Blaine Gabbert is expected to rotate in." This remains a situation to stay far away from in Week 2 fantasy lineups. And it has Corey Davis looking like a risky WR3 play.

Titans QB Marcus Mariota (elbow) is listed as questionable for this weekend's game against the Texans. HC Mike Vrabel said Friday that he anticipates both Mariota and QB Blaine Gabbert playing on Sunday. We're not exactly sure what that means, but this is obviously a situation to avoid in Week 2 fantasy lineups. Tennessee will also be missing LT Taylor Lewan (concussion) and RT Jack Conklin (knee) in this one. The Texans defense is a strong fantasy play.

Titans QB Marcus Mariota is questionable to return to Sunday's game against Miami with an elbow injury. Blaine Gabbert is under center for Tennessee. We'll update Mariota's status when we know more.

Cardinals HC Bruce Arians announced on Monday that QB Drew Stanton will start against the Giants this weekend. QB Blaine Gabbert has struggled after a decent start, completing just 51.5% of his passes with 1 TD and 3 INTs over the past 3 games. Stanton posted a 50.7% completion rate with 3 TDs and 1 INT in 2 starts before spraining his knee. Despite the plus matchup this Sunday, he can't be trusted in Week 16 fantasy lineups. It's worth noting that WR Larry Fitzgerald posted 5-70 and 10-113 lines in those 2 Stanton starts.

Cardinals HC Bruce Arians named QB Blaine Gabbert his Week 12 starter. He was decent in Sunday's loss to the Texans, completing 64.7% of his passes with 3 TD and 2 INTs. The task will be much, much tougher this weekend against the Jaguars. Gabbert isn't a Week 12 fantasy option.

Cardinals HC Bruce Arians has named QB Blaine Gabbert his starter for Sunday's game against the Texans. QB Drew Stanton (knee) did practice some this week and might be available for backup duties. Gabbert is on the QB2 and DFS radar thanks to his plus matchup and rushing ability.
