Giants WR Golden Tate has been suspended 4 games for violating the league’s policy on performance enhancing substances. Per Tate, the substance that triggered the positive test came from fertility medication. He’ll appeal the ruling on August 6. Tate can still practice and play in preseason games, and that time will be essential as he adjusts to a new offense. But his loss would further cripple an already thin Giants WR corps following the losses of Sterling Shepard and Corey Coleman. Next up on the depth chart: Cody Latimer, Russell Shepard, Bennie Fowler and rookie Darius Slayton. Saquon Barkley and Evan Engram will be busy.
Giants WR Corey Coleman will miss the entire 2019 season after tearing his ACL in Thursday's practice. The former 1st-rounder was the favorite for #3 duties but will now hit free agency in 2020 coming off a serious injury. Rookie Darius Slayton, Cody Latimer, Bennie Fowler and Russell Shepard will now duke it out for that #3 WR job. None is worth a pick in fantasy drafts.
The Giants selected Auburn WR Darius Slayton in the 5th round of the 2019 NFL Draft. Slayton totaled just 79 grabs over the past 3 seasons but averaged a big 20.3 yards per catch. He confirmed that big-play ability at the Combine by running a 4.39-second 40-yard dash at 6'1 and 190 pounds. We'll see if Slayton can develop into more than just a deep-ball receiver, but that speed will translate to the NFL level. There's opportunity in New York behind WRs Golden Tate and Sterling Shepard.
