Darrel Williams Fantasy Football News 2021

The Chiefs have re-signed restricted free-agent RB Darrel Williams to a 1-year deal. As the depth chart stands now, Williams and Darwin Thompson would be competing for #2 RB duties behind Clyde Edwards-Helaire. We'll see if Kansas City adds anything else to the backfield this offseason.

The Chiefs expect RB Clyde Edwards-Helaire (ankle, hip) to play against the Bills today, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. RB Le'Veon Bell (knee), on the other hand, is not expected to be active. That would leave CEH and Darrel Williams sharing the backfield work. Edwards-Helaire has not played since sustaining the dual injuries in Week 15 at New Orleans. He'll be risky for fantasy lineups in his 1st game back, but he's in play with limited RB options on a 2-game slate.

Chiefs RB Clyde Edwards-Helaire (ankle, hip) "has an uphill battle to play" against the Browns today, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. The rookie missed practice on Thursday and Friday after being limited on Wednesday. If he's inactive, Kansas City will roll with RBs Le'Veon Bell and Darrel Williams. With Edwards-Helaire out for Week 16, Williams out-carried Bell 10 to 7 and out-targeted him 6 to 3.

Chiefs RB Clyde Edwards-Helaire (ankle, hip) is listed as questionable for Sunday's Divisional Round game vs. the Browns. After putting in a limited practice on Wednesday, he missed the final 2 workouts of the week. "A couple of days ago he moved around real well and then we just kind of backed off him," HC Andy Reid said Friday. "He's still doing stuff, just not with the group. We'll just see how he does." We imagine Edwards-Helaire will be limited if he suits up on Sunday. RBs Le'Veon Bell and Darrel Williams will pick up more action.

Chiefs RB Clyde Edwards-Helaire injured his left hip and ankle in Sunday's win over the Saints. HC Andy Reid said X-rays after the game were negative but that CEH will have an MRI on Monday. NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports that the "early expectation" is Edwards-Helaire will miss the rest of the regular season "with a chance to return" for the playoffs.

The Chiefs are releasing RB DeAndre Washington, according to ESPN's Field Yates. That seems to solidify Darrel Williams and Darwin Thompson behind Clyde Edwards-Helaire on the depth chart. Each makes for a solid stash late in fantasy football drafts, with Williams the #2.

The Athletic's Nate Taylor believes Darrel Williams will enter the season as the Chiefs' #2 RB. Williams has reportedly been splitting 1st-team reps with rookie Clyde Edwards-Helaire and showing well in all aspects. “He’s done a hell of a job,” OC Eric Bieniemy said. “He’s smart, he can run it, he does a great job of picking up the blitz, and he’s also good in the pass game, as far as catching passes out on the perimeter.” Williams has mustered just 3.4 yards per carry on 54 attempts in Kansas City over the past 2 seasons -- although he's averaged a nice 10.8 yards on 18 receptions. We're ultimately still expecting a committee backfield with Williams, DeAndre Washington and potentially Darwin Thompson if Edwards-Helaire misses time. So we're not going out of our way to draft any of these Chiefs backups. But Williams is worth a look in super deep fantasy leagues.

The Chiefs have placed RB Darrel Williams on IR with his hamstring injury. LeSean McCoy, Darwin Thompson and Spencer Ware are Kansas City's healthy RBs right now. Damien Williams (rib) remained sidelined on Wednesday. McCoy is looking like the favorite to lead this backfield in touches against the Patriots this weekend, although he hasn't topped 14 touches in a game all season.

Chiefs HC Andy Reid conceded that there's a "good chance" RB Darrel Williams (hamstring) misses Sunday's game against the Patriots. There was no update from Reid on RB Damien Williams, who missed Week 13 with a rib injury. If both Williamses are out this weekend, Kansas City would be down to RBs LeSean McCoy and Darwin Thompson.

Despite RB Damien Williams (rib) being inactive and RB Darrel Williams exiting in the 3rd quarter with a hamstring injury, RB LeSean McCoy finished with just 5 carries and 3 targets in the win over the Raiders. “We’re not fooling anybody here, he’s not getting any younger, so it’s my responsibility to manage him as best I can, and I think I know him as well as anybody," HC Andy Reid said afterward. "So I’m going to do what I think is right on that." If both Williamses are out for Week 14's game against the Patriots, we're probably looking at something close to a 50/50 split between McCoy and RB Darwin Thompson. Thompson is worth grabbing off waiver wires this week.

Chiefs RB Darrel Williams suffered a non-contact leg injury in the 3rd quarter of Sunday's game against the Raiders. The leg just buckled underneath him as he took the ball off left tackle. Williams was able to hobble off the field under his own power. We'll update his status when we learn more. With RB Damien Williams (rib) out, Kansas City is down to RBs LeSean McCoy and Darwin Thompson.

Update: Williams is officially questionable to return with a hamstring injury.

Chiefs RB Damien Williams (ribs) is out for Sunday’s game against the Raiders. That leaves LeSean McCoy and Darrel Williams as Kansas City’s top 2 backs. McCoy figures to lead the way in touches and is the best fantasy option. But we’re expecting Williams to be plenty involved, too. He’s on the RB3 or flex radar.

Chiefs RB Damien Williams suffered a rib injury in the 2nd quarter of Monday night's game against the Chargers. He's questionable to return.

Update: The team has ruled him out for the game.
