Devonta Freeman Fantasy Football News 2020

The Falcons have released RB Devonta Freeman, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. The move saves Atlanta more than $3 million against the 2020 cap. Freeman just turned 28 but looked like a guy running on empty last season. He averaged a career-low 3.6 yards per carry and ranked dead last in Pro Football Focus' rushing grades among 45 RBs with 100+ attempts. We'll see what kind of interest Freeman garners on the open market. His departure leaves the Falcons with Ito Smith and Brian Hill atop the RB depth chart, making Atlanta 1 of the top destinations for a free-agent or rookie RB.

Falcons RB Devonta Freeman (knee) isn’t listed on the final Week 15 injury report. He practiced on Thursday and Friday after sitting out on Wednesday, which looks like was just a rest day. Freeman has racked up 42 touches in 2 games since returning from his foot injury but has a brutal matchup on Sunday vs. San Francisco’s 2nd-ranked RB defense.

Falcons RB Devonta Freeman (knee) returned to a limited practice on Thursday. We'll see what he does on Friday and then how Atlanta lists him on the final injury report. Hopefully you can avoid Freeman in this weekend's brutal matchup against the 49ers.

Falcons RB Devonta Freeman missed Wednesday's practice with a knee issue. This could just be a veteran's day off early in the week, but Freeman's status will be worth checking on again tomorrow. Of course, he's a shaky fantasy play against the 49ers this week anyways.

Falcons RB Devonta Freeman (foot) will play against the Saints on Thursday night. RB Brian Hill was horrible as the lead back over the past 2 weeks, so Freeman should step right back into a big role. He averaged 12.1 carries and 5 targets per game over the first 8 weeks of the season. Don't expect great efficiency vs. New Orleans, but volume has Freeman back in the RB2 mix.

Falcons RB Devonta Freeman (foot) was listed as a full participant in Tuesday's practice. That seemingly gives him a shot to return for Thursday night's game against the Saints. Check back tomorrow for another update on his status.

Falcons HC Dan Quinn expects RB Devonta Freeman (foot) to resume practicing this week. He still seems unlikely to play against the Saints on Thanksgiving, but this sets him up for a Week 14 return. RB Brian Hill has been awful as Atlanta's lead back the past 2 weeks.

Falcons RB Devonta Freeman (foot) is out for Sunday’s game against the Bucs. Brian Hill played 60% of the offensive snaps and handled 15 carries and 3 targets with Freeman out last week. Expect a similar role for Hill on Sunday — although this is a brutal matchup vs. the #3 ranked RB defense.

Falcons RB Devonta Freeman (foot) remained sidelined for Wednesday's practice. Fantasy owners shouldn't be counting on him to play against the Bucs this weekend. That'd mean another game as lead back for Brian Hill.

Falcons RB Devonta Freeman (foot) is out for Sunday's game against the Panthers. That leaves the starting job to Brian Hill, who handled all 18 RB opportunities (16 carries, 2 targets) after Freeman exited last week. Hill is a solid RB2 vs. Carolina's 29th-ranked RB defense.

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports that Falcons RB Devonta Freeman "could be out about two weeks" after suffering a foot sprain in Sunday's win. The injury reportedly affects Freeman's big toe more than the foot. Brian Hill looks like Atlanta's lead back while Freeman is out, with rookie Qadree Ollison likely factoring in as well. Atlanta gets a run-friendly matchup in Carolina for Week 11.

Falcons RB Devonta Freeman suffered a foot injury in Sunday's game against the Saints and is officially questionable to return. We'll pass along an update when we get one. RB Ito Smith (neck) was placed on IR on Saturday, leaving RB Brian Hill as Atlanta's lead back.

Falcons RB Ito Smith (neck) is out for Sunday's game against the Saints. Brian Hill will step in as Atlanta's #2 RB, but Smith's absence is an upgrade for Devonta Freeman. In 2 full games without Smith this season, Freeman has averaged 14.5 carries and 6 targets. Those marks drop to 12.2 carries and 5 targets with Smith.

Falcons RB Ito Smith (neck) remained sidelined for Wednesday's practice. That doesn't bode well for his chances of playing against the Saints this weekend. Smith's absence would be a boost to RB Devonta Freeman's fantasy stock.

Falcons HC Dan Quinn said Monday that RB Ito Smith has been diagnosed with a concussion and won't play against the Seahawks this weekend. We'll see if he can get cleared after Atlanta's Week 9 bye. Brian Hill will step in as the #2 back on Sunday, but RB Devonta Freeman should dominate backfield work.

Falcons RB Devonta Freeman was ejected in the 3rd quarter of Sunday's game against the Rams after getting into a scuffle with DL Aaron Donald. Atlanta lost RB Ito Smith to a likely concussion earlier in this game, leaving them with RBs Brian Hill and Kenjon Barner.

Falcons RB Ito Smith exited in the 1st quarter of Sunday's game against the Colts for a concussion check. We'll update his status when we learn more. Smith's absence leaves Devonta Freeman as Atlanta's feature back.

Update: Smith has been ruled out for the rest of the game with a concussion.

Falcons RB Devonta Freeman will be a full-go for training camp, HC Dan Quinn said. Knee, groin and foot injuries limited Freeman to just 2 games last season. “We can’t wait to get Free back,” Quinn said. “He’s having such an awesome offseason ... When you get to see the team out here this spring, I think you’ll feel the energy at running back certainly with Free leading the way.” Prior to the injury-wrecked 2018 campaign, Freeman had finished 13th, 6th and 1st among RBs in PPR points the previous 3 seasons. Still just 27, he's a prime bounce-back candidate in 2019 with Tevin Coleman gone and Atlanta beefing up the offensive line with free agents Jamon Brown and James Carpenter and rookies Chris Lindstrom and Kaleb McGary.

FOX's Jay Glazer reports that the Falcons are placing RB Devonta Freeman. NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports the veteran will have groin surgery and hopes to return this season. The 8-week timeline on being designated to return from IR wouldn't bring him back until at least Week 15, though. That puts both Tevin Coleman and Ito Smith into play as potential weekly fantasy starters the rest of the way. Coleman played 38 snaps to Smith's 31 against Tampa, but Smith beat him 11-10 in rushing attempts and matched Coleman's 2 targets. Coleman remains the slightly better bet for touches and the stronger bet for yardage production the rest of the way.
