Erik Swoope Fantasy Football News 2019

The Raiders have signed former Colts TE Erik Swoope. A converted basketball player, Swoope has caught just 23 balls over 5 NFL seasons -- but he's averaged 16.7 yards per catch and scored 4 times. There's theoretical upside here, but time is running out for Swoope to reach it. He at least lands in a wide-open TE group alongside Darren Waller, rookie Foster Moreau and Luke Willson. This will be a position battle to monitor this summer.

Colts TE Eric Ebron (shin, quad, ankle, knee) missed his 2nd straight practice on Thursday. He's obviously banged up and appears to be in danger of missing this weekend's game against the Jets. We'll get another update tomorrow. Ebron's absence would leave Erik Swoope as the Colts' lead TE.

The Colts have placed TE Erik Swoope on injured reserve. He had a knee scope in August and has been sidelined since. The Colts could tab Swoope their "designated-to-return" player and bring him back for the 2nd half of the season, but he's obviously not worth rostering in redraft leagues right now.

Colts HC Chuck Pagano revealed Monday that TE Erik Swoope recently had his knee scoped. Pagano labeled Swoope "week-to-week" but didn't provide any other details. There's at least a chance he's not ready for the start of the season. Swoope was an intriguing late-round flier in deep fantasy drafts before this news, but it's tough to recommend using a pick on him at this point. We'll keep an eye on his rehab.

Colts insider Stephen Holder came away from a conference call with new GM Chris Ballard believing the team is "VERY bullish" on TE Erik Swoope. "Wants to see his ceiling," Holder added. A converted basketball player, Swoope didn't hit the stat sheet in either of his first 2 NFL seasons. But he hauled in 15 balls for 297 yards (19.8 YPC) and a score this past year. TE Jack Doyle turned in an efficient 2016 as Indy's lead TE and landed a 3-year, $19 million contract this offseason. But he's not the type of elite talent that is impossible to leap on the depth chart. Swoope will be a name to closely monitor this summer.
