Jadeveon Clowney Fantasy Football News 2019

The Texans are placing the franchise tag on DE/OLB Jadeveon Clowney. The 26-year-old posted 9 and 9.5 sacks the past 2 seasons. He carries much more IDP value in fantasy football leagues that give him DL eligibility -- and Clowney probably should in most places. Pro Football Focus counted his most snaps, by far, at the "right end outside" position -- the spot opposite the "LEO" pass-rusher spot that has gained prominence as former Seattle defensive coaches have spread around the league. Where he's merely a LB, Clowney figures to remain more of an IDP spot starter.

Texans OLB/DE Jadeveon Clowney (groin) is active for today's game against the Broncos. He entered the day questionable but looks fine for normal IDP usage in a solid pass-rushing matchup.

Texans OLB Jadeveon Clowney (groin) is questionable for Sunday's game against the Broncos. He didn't appear on the Wednesday injury report but then was limited Thursday and Friday. Clowney says he's ready to play against the Broncos, though. We'll confirm his status Sunday.

Texans OLB/DE Jadeveon Clowney (back) will not play today against the Titans, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter. That takes 1 of the best players off the Houston defense, but Tennessee's multitude of offensive injuries -- plus the Texans' remaining talent -- still leaves plenty of fantasy upside for Week 2. Houston remains 1 of the strongest team-defense options for the week.

Update: Clowney is officially inactive.

Texans DE/OLB Jadeveon Clowney (knee) is active for today’s game against the Jaguars. HC Bill O’Brien said during the week that he expected Clowney to play, but the star pass rusher missed all 3 days of practice. He’s risky as an IDP but worth playing in DL slots where eligible.

Texans DE/OLB Jadeveon Clowney (knee) is questionable for Sunday's game against the Jaguars. He missed practice all week, but HC Bill O'Brien said Friday that he expects Clowney to play, according to the Houston Chronicle. We'll confirm his status Sunday morning.

Texans OLB/DE Jadeveon Clowney returned to the practice field Thursday for the 1st time in more than a week. The Houston Chronicle reports that he had been working off to the side while dealing with leg soreness. If that's the case, we're not sure why other Texans beat writers treated Clowney's situation like a mystery or why HC Bill O'Brien refused to update the star defender's status. In any event, the fact that he's active again is good news and should leave IDP drafters selecting Clowney as they have been to this point.

Texans OLB/DE Jadeveon Clowney hasn't practiced in "more than a week," according to ESPN's Sarah Barshop. But she adds that HC Bill O'Brien says Clowney is not injured. Clowney also missed Houston's 2nd preseason game. We'll be curious to see if he returns to the field this week or whether we get more info on the situation.

Texans CB Johnathan Joseph (ribs) is inactive for today's game against the Colts. DE/OLB Jadeveon Clowney (elbow) and ILB Brian Cushing (back) are active after entering the day questionable. Neither makes for a strong IDP play, but both are available if you need them.

The Texans have ruled DE/OLB Jadeveon Clowney (elbow, wrist) out for Sunday's game at Green Bay. The defense will also be missing OLB John Simon (chest), who was previously ruled out, and might miss S Andre Hal (illness) as well. Losing any defensive pieces is not a great way to head into a matchup with Packers QB Aaron Rodgers.

Texans DE/OLB Jadeveon Clowney (elbow), ILB Brian Cushing (back) and S Andre Hal (illness) are all questionable for Sunday's game at Green Bay. Clowney and Cushing put in limited workouts all week and appear likely to play. Hal missed practice all week. None has proved to be a particularly strong IDP option this year, and Houston's a weak team-D option against the Packers.

Texans DE/OLB Jadeveon Clowney (elbow) is active for today's game against the Lions. Use him as you normally would in your IDP league. Having Clowney also helps the upside for the Texans' team D.

Houston pass rusher Jadeveon Clowney (foot) won't play in Saturday's matchup with the Chiefs.  Clowney would have played limited snaps if active, but his absence certainly gives a boost to Alex Smith's fantasy outlook.

As expected, Texans DE J.J. Watt is active for today's game against the Titans. He missed 2 days of practice with a back issue this week but returned for a full workout Friday. Get him into your IDP lineup if you weren't sure before. The Texans will also have OLB Jadeveon Clowney active despite an illness that limited him during the week.

The Houston Chronicle reports that Texans OLB Jadeveon Clowney has progressed so well from his microfracture knee surgery that "the goal is to have him on the practice field when camp begins." The 2nd-year man figures to work back in slowly after seeing time in only 4 games and landing on IR with a serious knee injury. We'll be quite curious to see how he performs on that repaired joint this summer and whether Clowney can prove ready to start by the regular season.

Texans LB Jadeveon Clowney had microfracture surgery on his injured knee this week, and ESPN's Adam Schefter reports he could be out for 9 months. That timeline would return Clowney in the middle of September. We'll see how the recovery goes.

Texans LB Brian Cushing will miss his 2nd straight game to rest his troublesome knee. The veteran did put in a limited workout Friday after missing the week's 1st 2 practices, but sitting out this game gives him nearly a month of rest between games. (Houston gets a Week 10 bye.) Let's hope that Cushing's knee feels better come Week 11.  LB Jadeveon Clowney (illness) is also inactive for today's game against the Eagles.

Texans LB Jadeveon Clowney is not expected to play Sunday against the Eagles, and it might be because of an undisclosed illness instead of the knee injury that cost him 6 games. "I wouldn't say it looks very good for him playing Sunday," HC Bill O'Brien said Friday, per The Associated Press. Clowney returned from the knee injury last week but missed practice this week and was listed with the knee and illness on the week's final injury report. Fortunately for fantasy owners, he's not yet much of an IDP option even when available. And Clowney's absence doesn't affect the team D much. Whitney Mercilus played so well in the rookie's absence that he kept the starting job (and primary duty) through Clowney's Week 8 return.

Texans rookie OLB Jadeveon Clowney is active for today's clash with Tennessee after sitting out since the opener with a knee injury. OLB Whitney Mercilus has played well recently in Clowney's place, however, making the #1 pick no lock to immediately reclaim his old role. If you have Clowney on your fantasy squad, try to wait on using him in your lineup until we see him back in action. His return, however, can only help a Houston D that will be without Brian Cushing against the Titans.
