Jarrett Stidham Fantasy Football News 2020

The Patriots have signed QB Cam Newton to a 1-year, "incentive-laden" deal, ESPN's Adam Schefter reports. This fit has made sense since March, when QB Tom Brady signed with the Bucs and Newton was dumped by the Panthers. The trouble of getting Newton in for a physical with the Coronavirus concerns likely delayed the signing. Newton turned 31 in May and missed 16 games over the last 2 seasons with shoulder and foot injuries. But he also completed a career-high 68% of his passes with 24 TDs and 13 INTs in 2018, while also running for 488 yards and 4 TDs. New England is seemingly high on Jarrett Stidham -- but a healthy Newton will likely prove to be the best QB in town. He's the Patriots QB to take a shot on late in best-ball drafts. We'll look for reports on his health and standing on the Patriots' depth chart. See where Newton lands in the updated QB Rankings.

The Patriots have signed QB Brian Hoyer to a 1-year, $2 million deal. The 34-year-old made 1 start for the Colts last season, completing just 46% of his passes for 204 yards, 1 TD and 3 INTs in a loss to the Dolphins. Hoyer does have experience with New England, playing there for his first 3 NFL seasons and then again in 2017 and 2018. We imagine the Patriots would like to see 2019 4th-rounder Jarrett Stidham win the starting job, but Hoyer will be around as insurance. New England could also still add a rookie QB to the mix.

Tom Brady has agreed to a contract with the Buccaneers, according to multiple outlets. Tampa Bay has been rumored to be a finalist for a while now and holds the upside of 1 of the league's top WR duos in Mike Evans and Chris Godwin. Brady will also work with longtime NFL coach Bruce Arians. It's tough to say whether Brady impacts the fantasy outlooks for his new receivers, given that we've never seen him outside of New England. Reagardless of QB play, though, it's unlikely that both Evans and Godwin continue to deliver fantasy points at the WR1 level. Brady's arrival officially means we'll see Jameis Winston don a new uniform. His departure from New England also leaves Jarrett Stidham at the top of the current depth chart. We'll see if/how the Patriots choose to address the position further this offseason.

The Patriots grabbed Auburn QB Jarrett Stidham in the 4th round of the 2019 NFL Draft. Stidham started his college career at Baylor, completing 75 of 109 passes (68.8%) for 1,265 yards, 12 TDs and 2 INTs in spot duty. He then transferred to Auburn, where he started the past 2 seasons. Stidham turned in an impressive 2017, completing 66.5% of his passes and averaging 8.5 yards per attempt. But his numbers sunk across the board this past year: 60.7% completion rate and 7.6 yards per attempt. Stidham will be the latest to attempt to become Tom Brady’s successor in New England.
