Jason Verrett Fantasy Football News 2020

The Chargers believe CB Jason Verrett tore his right Achilles tendon during a Friday conditioning run, according to multiple reports. That would end his 3rd straight season early. Verrett tore his left ACL early in 2016 and then needed another surgery on the knee in September 2017 when the ligament failed to fully heal. Assuming the 27-year-old's status gets confirmed, his departure from the lineup would return the Chargers' secondary to last year's top 3 at CB: Casey Hayward, Trevor Williams and Desmond King. The 2017 Chargers defense delivered top-8 fantasy numbers and ranked 12th in overall team-D efficiency without Verrett.

Chargers CB Jason Verrett will miss the rest of the season after partially tearing the ACL in his left knee, according to The Associated Press. That doesn't impact IDP owners, but it takes 1 of the league's top cover men out of the San Diego defense. That hurts an already weak D and helps the WRs matching up against the Chargers the rest of the way.

Chargers S Eric Weddle left Thursday night's loss to the Raiders early with a groin injury and did not return. That's the same issue that cause him to miss 2 games earlier this season, his first lost games since 2009. We'll see about his status heading into next week, but it'll be tough to trust him in Week 17 IDP lineups. Weddle will turn 30 in January and then hit unrestricted free agency in March (if he doesn't re-sign in the meantime, of course). Top Chargers CB Jason Verrett also left the Oakland loss early with a hamstring injury. San Diego will have little reason to press him into duty next Sunday if he's anywhere short of 100%.

The Chargers have placed rookie CB Jason Verrett on season-ending IR as he heads toward shoulder surgery. That means San Diego will finish the year without a guy currently tied for 9th in coverage rating at his position by Pro Football Focus. On the plus side, though, the Chargers activated OLB Melvin Ingram on Saturday from short-term IR after a hip injury. Ingram figures to have a little rust to shake off, but he can only help 1 of the league's worst pass rushes.
