The Lions have downgraded MLB Tahir Whitehead (knee) to out for Sunday's game at New Orleans. It's a bit surprising given that Whitehead managed limited practices all week. Josh Bynes is expected to start in his place, with Detroit also expected to continue missing OLB DeAndre Levy (knee, questionable).
The Lions this week placed OLB DeAndre Levy on season-ending IR. That comes a little more than 2 weeks after he had surgery on his injured hip. Levy originally suffered the injury in the summer and then aggravated it in his only regular-season game action after missing the 1st 4 weeks. We'll check on his status in the offseason. In the meantime, Josh Bynes should continue to start in Levy's place and play a 3-down role.
The Lions have ruled LB DeAndre Levy out for Week 6 with the hip trouble that have cost him all but a half of football so far this year. IR seems to remain a possibility for this situation, though it looks like Detroit's taking it week by week for now. Unless you play in a deep IDP league, you can comfortably drop Levy for more immediate help. Josh Bynes has become a 3-down LB at Levy's spot in his absence and is usable in fantasy.
The Lions have ruled LB DeAndre Levy doubtful for Sunday's game and finally revealed this week that he's been dealing with a hip injury. The Detroit Free Press reports that the team still hasn't shared any specifics on the issue, but a source said Levy's improving and won't need surgery. That runs counter to a Wednesday report indicating surgery might lie ahead. It would have been nice if we could have gotten any of these details back before we had all drafted our IDP teams, because this is a worrisome situation until Levy gets back onto the field and proves that he's fine. If you drafted him, keep him around for now -- unless you play in a shallow (e.g. 3 IDP spots or fewer) -- IDP league. Josh Bynes is expected to start in Levy's place. Don't bother with him. MLB Stephen Tulloch could get a bit of a tackle boost while Levy's out, though.
