K'Lavon Chaisson Fantasy Football News 2021

The Jaguars are re-signing DE Dawuane Smoot for 2 years, $14 million, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. That's pretty significant money for a guy with 11.5 sacks through 4 pro seasons, but Smoot just got his 1st starting shot in 2020. His 17 QB hits tied for 28th in the league. The new contract indicates that Jacksonville's new coaching staff believes in Smoot's semi-breakout. He'll share edge reps with Josh Allen and K'Lavon Chaisson, 1st-round picks the past 2 years.

The Jaguars have downgraded DE Josh Allen to out for Sunday's game against the Texans. He already looked unlikely to play through a knee injury that kept him out of practice all week. Allen's absence could mean more snaps for rookie K'Lavon Chaisson and DE Dawuane Smoot. Chaisson reached 50% snap share for the 2nd time in 4 games last week but hasn't looked like a player who belongs in IDP lineups yet. Smoot has yet to hit 50% in a game this season. Cassius Marsh could see the biggest boost at the position. His playing time has gone 19%, 62% and 32% through his 3 appearances.

The Vikings are trading a pair of draft picks to the Jaguars for DE Yannick Ngakoue, according to multiple reports. Jacksonville gets a 2021 second-rounder and a conditional 5th-round pick in 2022. According to Adam Schefter, that pick becomes a 4th if Ngakoue makes the Pro Bowl this season; a 3rd if Ngakoue makes the Pro Bowl and the Vikings win the Super Bowl. Ngakoue has delivered 8+ sacks and 14+ QB hits in each of his 4 seasons. He should quickly take over the right DE job from Ifeadi Odenigbo, who has been replacing the departed Everson Griffen. The Jaguars, meanwhile, now have more edge snaps available for 1st-round pick K'Lavon Chaisson. He has reportedly impressed HC Doug Marrone since returning from an early-camp hamstring injury.
