The Raiders' latest depth chart lists 1st-round pick S Karl Joseph #2 at SS behind veteran Nate Allen. That doesn't necessarily mean he has let his new team down but rather that he's still developing -- especially after losing most of his senior year to an ACL tear and missing the offseason. Expect Joseph to replace Allen at some point this year. Neither should be on your IDP radar heading into the season, though.
The Raiders have activated S Nate Allen from short-term IR. He has been out since suffering a Week 1 knee injury but is expected to reclaim his starting spot next to Charles Woodson, according to Pro Football Talk. That would push T.J. Carrie back to CB, which has featured David Amerson and D.J. Hayden as starters for most of Allen's absence. We'll see how the playing time works out among this crew going forward. All make for fairly risky IDP options this week against Minnesota.
The busy Eagles have announced they signed former Patriots S Patrick Chung. Once a favorite IDP breakout candidate, Chung let fantasy owners down by losing 14 games to various injuries over the past 3 seasons. Even when he was healthy last year, Chung lost his full-time role in a crowded backfield. Chung left Oregon for the NFL just as Chip Kelly was taking over the HC post. But Kelly spent the previous 2 years as OC for the Ducks. So he's obviously familiar with Chung. The most obvious move would be to slot Chung into the Eagles' starting SS job. We'll see how the rest of the action sorts out, though. Philly would probably like to replace both starters at the back end.
The Eagles have benched FS Nate Allen. Instead, they'll start Kurt Coleman and Colt Anderson against Washington on Sunday. Anderson stepped into the lineup the past 2 weeks with Coleman hurt. Mike Mayock lauded his play during the Thursday night loss to the Bengals. Allen, meanwhile, has never quite gotten on track since a 2010 knee injury. Look for the next Eagles coach to open competition at the position. IDP owners shouldn't look to Coleman or Anderson in Week 16.
