The Texans selected Central Florida TE Jordan Akins in the 3rd round of the 2018 NFL Draft. He's undersized at 6'3, 249 pounds and is a pure pass-catching TE. Akins spent 4 years trying to make it in minor league baseball before going back to the gridiron. He boosted his yardage each year at UCF, topping out with 515 yards and 4 TDs on 32 grabs this past year. He finds opportunity in Houston with only Ryan Griffin and Stephen Anderson to beat out. Akins is worth a late-round flier in dynasty rookie drafts.
The Texans have placed TE Ryan Griffin (concussion) on IR. His roster spot will be taken by TE C.J. Fiedorowicz, who was activated from IR with his own concussion. Fiedorowicz will serve as Houston's lead pass-catching TE the rest of the way but is a low-upside fantasy option with Tom Savage under center.
Texans TE Ryan Griffin sustained a concussion in the 1st half of Sunday's game against the Colts and is done for the day. We'll track his progress through the protocol this week, but Griffin isn't much of a fantasy option with Tom Savage under center.
Texans TE Ryan Griffin (concussion) put in a full week of practice and will play against the Patriots on Sunday. He’ll operate as Houston’s lead TE with C.J. Fiedorowicz out, giving Griffin some deep sleeper appeal. He posted an 8-85 line in the 1 game Fiedorowicz missed last year.
The Texans have placed TE C.J. Fiedorowicz on IR after he suffered his 3rd concussion in the past 9 months in Sunday's opener. Fiedorowicz could be a candidate to return in 8+ weeks but isn't worth hanging on to in fantasy leagues. TEs Ryan Griffin and Stephen Anderson are also likely to miss Thursday night's game against the Bengals with concussions. It all just means more targets for WR DeAndre Hopkins.
Texans TE Ryan Griffin sustained a concussion in Sunday's game against the Jaguars. He's done for the day. Griffin's absence could mean an extra target for 2 for TE C.J. Fiedorowicz.
Texans TE C.J. Fiedorowicz (concussion) is out for Sunday’s game against the Jaguars. Ryan Griffin will step in as Houston’s starter and is an intriguing TE2.
Texans TE C.J. Fiedorowicz (concussion) missed practice again on Thursday. He's looking unlikely to get cleared in time for this weekend's game against the Jaguars. That'd leave Ryan Griffin as the top TE in what's become a TE-centric passing game.
Texans TE Garrett Graham (back) is not expected to play against the Redskins today, according to NFL Network's Albert Breer. Graham was listed as questionable but didn't practice at all this week, so he shouldn't be considered a lock to be ready for Week 2. Rookie TE C.J. Fiedorowicz is expected to start in Graham's place today, with TE Ryan Griffin also seeing more action. Neither guy is a recommended fantasy play.
The Texans may have dumped HC Gary Kubiak, but they still want the TE cupboard stocked. They opened the 3rd round of the 2014 NFL draft by taking Iowa's C.J. Fiedorowicz. He caught just 91 passes in a career of underuse at Iowa but flashed good athleticism at the Scouting Combine, including a 4.76 time in the 40. The strong blocking background that seems to accompany all Iowa TEs should help him get on the field earlier, but Fiedorowicz will open his Texans career behind Garrett Graham and Ryan Griffin on the depth chart. He's only a late consideration even in dynasty formats.
TE Garrett Graham has agreed to a new 3-year deal with the Texans. The former 4th-rounder has spent the first 4 seasons of his NFL career in Houston. He set personal bests across the board in 2013 with 49 catches, 545 yards and 5 TDs. As the Texans' lead TE over an 8-game stretch, he racked up 34 catches, 404 yards and 2 TDs. He was fantasy’s #10 TE over that span. Graham is certainly a capable pass-catcher but is not a special talent. He'll battle for targets with TE Ryan Griffin in Houston. It remains to be seen how big a role the TEs will play in new HC Bill O'Brien's passing attack.
The Texans have released TE Owen Daniels. The move saves $4.5 million against the cap. Daniels appeared to have plenty of gas left in the tank before suffering a season-ending broken leg in October. But he's 31 and has always been injury prone. Daniels has missed 26 games over the past 5 seasons. That'll certainly hurt his value on the open market. Meanwhile, the Texans are left with 2013 6th-rounder Ryan Griffin atop their TE depth chart. Griffin showed well as Houston's lead TE over the final 3 games of last season, hauling in 14 balls for 177 yards. We'll see how big a pass-catching role he'll play in HC Bill O'Brien's offense.
Texans TE Garrett Graham (hamstring) is out for Sunday's game against the Titans. TE Owen Daniels (leg) is also out, meaning another start for TE Ryan Griffin. The rookie has led Houston in receiving the past 2 weeks, totaling 11 catches for 128 yards. He's a low-end fantasy starter for Week 17.
TE Garrett Graham (hamstring) is inactive for today’s game against the
Broncos. Rookie TE Ryan Griffin will get
another start and is a viable Week 16 spot starter. He played every offensive snap last week and
led Houston with 6 catches and 62 yards.
TE Garrett Graham (hamstring) is listed as questionable for Sunday’s game
against the Broncos. He didn’t practice
all week, though, and seems unlikely to play.
With TE Owen Daniels (leg) also out, that leaves Ryan Griffin as the
lead TE again. The rookie played all 67
offensive snaps last week and led Houston with 6 catches and 62 yards. He’s a viable option for owners who lost
Jordan Cameron this week.
Texans interim HC Wade Phillips didn't sound optimistic about either TE Garrett Graham (hamstring) or TE Owen Daniels (leg) on Monday. Phillips called Graham "still iffy" and said he didn't know if Daniels would be able to practice all week. If both guys miss Sunday's game against the Broncos, TE Ryan Griffin would get another start. He led Houston with 6 catches and 62 yards this past weekend. The rookie is an intriguing dynasty-league stash but would be a desperation Week 16 fantasy play.
Texans TE Garrett Graham (hamstring) is inactive for today’s game against the Colts. TE Owen Daniels (leg) is also out. That leaves 6th-round rookie Ryan Griffin as Houston’s lead TE. He figures to see a handful of targets but would be a desperation fantasy play.
