Vinny Curry Fantasy Football News 2020

Eagles DE Derek Barnett returned to a full practice Wednesday. Barnett missed Week 1 with a hamstring injury that also cost him a large chunk of training camp. But it sounds like he'll be ready to face the Rams on Sunday. That will be particularly helpful, as DE Brandon Graham is in the concussion protocol and DE Vinny Curry landed on IR this week with what HC Doug Pederson called a "significant" hamstring injury. Philly also got DT Javon Hargrave back for a limited workout Wednesday. The free-agent addition missed all of camp with a pectoral injury. The Eagles are likely to ease him back in.

The Buccaneers will face the Giants on Sunday without OLB Lavonte David (MCL sprain), S Justin Evans (toe) and DE Vinny Curry (ankle). The 1st 2 are starter-level IDP options when healthy. We wouldn't bother chasing their backups. Curry hasn't been an IDP factor, but Carl Nassib has delivered recently amid Curry's inconsistent availability. Nassib has tallied 4 sacks and 6 total QB hits over the past 4 games. He's questionable for Sunday's game as well with an elbow issue but put in limited practice Thursday and a full Friday workout after sitting Wednesday. If Nassib's active Sunday, he'll be an upside option in DL2 territory.

The Buccaneers have ruled DT Gerald McCoy (calf) and DE Vinny Curry (ankle) out for Sunday's game against the Browns. Neither is a big IDP factor, but the absences of both starters can only help an already-bright fantasy outlook for Browns QB Baker Mayfield.

The Buccaneers signed DE Vinny Curry to a 3-year, $27 million deal. It’s not yet clear how much of that is guaranteed, but it’s clearly starter money. Curry got starter money in his last Eagles contract, too, but never drew a full share of snaps amid Philly’s talented rotation. He’s capable of double-digit sacks but needs to prove he can stand up to full-time duty. Curry figures to take over at right end after Tampa released DE Robert Ayers

Eagles DE Vinny Curry is active for today’s opener against the Browns. He entered the weekend questionable with a knee issue but put in a full practice Friday. He carries IDP upside into a matchup with a Browns offense that we expect will have trouble protecting its QB this season. The Philly team D has plenty of upside in the matchup as well.

The Eagles on Tuesday announced a new 5-year deal with DE Vinny Curry that guarantees him $23 million, according to the Philadelphia Inquirer. The announced total is $47.25 million, which is obviously starter money for a guy who played a career-high 35% of Philly's defensive snaps last year in his 4th season. Look for him to play a lot more snaps as a 4-3 DE under new DC Jim Schwartz. Curry tallied a career-best 9 sacks in 2014 before falling back to 3.5 last season. He has flashed pass-rush upside throughout his young career, though, and will enter 2016 as an IDP sleeper for fantasy football drafts.

SI.com's Don Banks reports that the Eagles have reached a deal with Jim Schwartz to become their new DC. The former Lions HC and Bills DC spent 2015 out of the league after Buffalo hired Rex Ryan and didn't retain Schwartz in the wake of HC Doug Marrone's departure. Schwartz has spent 9 years as an NFL DC, 8 of those with Tennessee before he took over Detroit's head job. He coached top-8 defenses in his final 2 years with the Titans and led the Bills to #4 rankings in yards allowed and scoring D in 2014. That unit fell off quite a bit under Ryan's staff last year. Schwartz inherits an Eagles group with some talent but has always favored a 4-3 base front. Philly ran primarily out of a 3-4 alignment the past 3 years under HC Chip Kelly and DC Bill Davis but has some versatile defenders who can present value in multiple fronts. One pending free agent who will be interesting to watch is DE Vinny Curry, who has flashed as a pass rusher and might be ideally suited for a 4-3 edge role.

Eagles DE Cedric Thornton broke a bone in his right hand and will miss "a few weeks," according to a Philly.com report. He's no huge loss for IDP owners or the Philly defense but does chip away a bit further at a unit that also lost LB Kiko Alonso for at least a few games and has LB Mychal Kendricks dealing with a hamstring strain. Vinny Curry and Taylor Hart could each see more playing time with Thornton out. Curry's the only 1 on the IDP radar.
