Shark Bites

Niners LB Reuben Foster (hamstring) and S Jaquiski Tartt (shoulder) each left Sunday's loss to the Cardinals early with injuries and did not return. San Francisco now plays Oakland on Thursday night, which will challenge the ability of either defender to make it back for Week 9.

An MRI has confirmed that Buccaneers MLB Kwon Alexander tore his left ACL in Sunday's win over the Browns, ESPN's Adam Schefter reports. That will end the LB's season after just 6 games. It marks the 3rd time in his 4 pro seasons that Alexander has played 12 games or fewer (the 1st of those because of a PED suspension). LB Adarius Taylor played a season-high 62% of the defensive snaps against Cleveland. That marked the 4th straight week in which his playing time increased. Taylor certainly looks like the biggest beneficiary of the Alexander injury. We'd like to wait and see just how much the strong-side starter plays against the Bengals in Week 8 before using him in IDP lineups.

Buccaneers MLB Kwon Alexander left late in the 2nd quarter of Sunday's game against the Browns after suffering a non-contact knee injury. He has been ruled out for the game. The situation looks potentially serious. We'll watch for updates after the game or tomorrow.

Niners CB Richard Sherman (calf) is inactive for today's game against the Rams. That has no impact on IDP owners, and no one should have been considering using the San Francisco team D. The biggest effect here is that the Niners secondary now presents no real challenges for any L.A. wideouts. Josh Reynolds -- who joins the lineup with Cooper Kupp out -- gets an upside boost with Sherman's absence.

49ers TE George Kittle (knee) is active. He was limited in practice all week but remains the top TE play in tonight’s game against the Packers.

Niners TE George Kittle (knee) is questionable for Monday night's game against the Packers. He put in limited practices all week and didn't appear to miss any significant time with the issue in last week's game. We'd bet on Kittle playing Monday night. Garrett Celek should be available as an emergency fill-in should Kittle land on the inactive list.

49ers WR Dante Pettis (knee) is out for Sunday's game against the Cardinals and is "week-to-week" beyond that, HC Kyle Shanahan said. We don't have any other details on Pettis' exact injury, but it sounds like he's dealing with some type of sprain. The rookie can be dropped in redraft leagues.

The 49ers expect to get S Jaquiski Tartt back in the lineup for Sunday's game against the Cardinals, according to NBC Bay Area's Matt Maiocco. Tartt missed the past 2 games with a shoulder injury, and Antone Exum delivered a pair of top-3 fantasy finishes among DBs in his place. There's no reason to believe we can't get top-shelf fantasy production from Tartt at the position going forward.

49ers WR Dante Pettis injured his left knee in the 1st half of Sunday's game against the Chargers and is officially questionable to return. We'll pass along an update when we get one.

UPDATE: Pettis has been ruled out for the rest of the game.

The 49ers will likely miss SS Jaquiski Tartt for the 2nd straight week. He missed every day of practice with the shoulder injury that ended his Week 2 early and cost him Week 3. Antone Exum figures to start in Tartt's place again and looks like a decent IDP option against the Chargers. Exum racked up 9 tackles (8 solo) and a sack against the Chiefs last time out.

Niners S Jaquiski Tartt remained out with a shoulder injury Wednesday when the team started practice for the Week 4 matchup with the Chargers. Tartt missed Week 3 and watched Antone Exum step in for 9 tackles (8 solo) and a sack. If Tartt can't go Sunday, then Exum becomes an IDP option.

An MRI on 49ers QB Jimmy Garoppolo's left knee revealed a torn ACL. His 2018 campaign is over. If this is a clean ACL tear with no other ligament damage, Garoppolo has a good chance to be ready for the start of the 2019 season a little over 11 months from now. QB C.J. Beathard takes over for the rest of this year. He completed 55.3% of his passes and averaged 6.3 yards per attempt in 5 starts late last season. The 'Niners averaged just 14.8 points in those games. Garoppolo's absence will be felt by everyone in this offense.

49ers HC Kyle Shanahan said in the post-game press conference that the team "fears" a torn ACL for Jimmy Garoppolo. That'd be a season-ending injury for the $137 million QB. Garoppolo will undergo additional tests to confirm the initial diagnosis, and we should get another update tomorrow. The downgrade to backup QB C.J. Beathard is obviously significant, so this is a big blow to all of San Francisco's skill-position guys.

49ers QB Jimmy Garoppolo exited with a left knee injury in the 4th quarter of Sunday's game against the Chiefs. He was carted back to the locker room and "visibly upset," according to insider Matt Maiocco. We'll update Garoppolo's status as soon as we know more. QB C.J. Beathard has entered the game for San Francisco.

Chargers TE Travis Benjamin (foot) is inactive for today’s game against the Rams. Tyrell Williams and Mike Williams will serve as the #2 and #3 WRs, but neither is a strong fantasy play vs. a tough group of Rams CBs.

Niners S Jaquiski Tartt is out for today's game against the Chiefs with a shoulder injury.

NFL Network's Mike Garafolo reports that the 49ers will keep rookie Fred Warner at MLB today against the Chiefs and start Reuben Foster and Malcolm Smith at the OLB spots. Foster is returning from a 2-game suspension, while Smith missed the 1st 2 games with a hamstring injury. It remains to be seen who the Niners will keep on the field for passing sub packages. IDP owners can use Warner and Foster in Week 3 lineups, but be aware of the lingering playing-time question if you're facing tough starting decisions.

Niners S Jaquiski Tartt is questionable for Sunday's game against the Chiefs. Tartt missed Wednesday's and Thursday's practices with a shoulder injury before returning to a limited workout Friday. We'll check his status Sunday morning.

Chargers TE Travis Benjamin (foot) is listed as questionable for Sunday’s game against the Rams after a limited week of practice. He was reportedly close to playing last weekend, so we’re expecting him to give it a go here. Benjamin isn’t a fantasy option, though, against a stout Rams secondary.

Niners S Jaquiski Tartt missed Wednesday's practice because of a shoulder injury. According to multiple reports, it's an aggravation of an issue he dealt with in the offseason. We'll watch his status throughout the week.
