Packers RB Jamaal Williams limped off the field during Thursday night's preseason game agains the Steelers with an ankle injury. We'll look for an update on the severity. Williams has been in the driver's seat for Green Bay's starting job for at least the first 2 weeks of the season with RB Aaron Jones suspended. If this ankle injury gets in the way, the Packers would be left with Ty Montgomery atop the depth chart.
Packers RB Aaron Jones (hamstring) returned to practice on Sunday. He ended up missing about 2 weeks. We'll see if he can avoid a setback and build some momentum in the next couple of preseason games. Jones will open the regular season on a 2-game suspension but is still capable of eventually emerging as Green Bay's lead ball-carrier. His recent ADP is sitting in the late 8th round.
Packers RB Aaron Jones has missed over a week of training camp with a hamstring injury. We haven't heard a timetable for his return from the Packers or the media. It's been a rough month for Jones, who was slapped with a 2-game suspension for violating the league's substance abuse policy in early July. He's still capable of carving out a role when he returns in Week 3 -- but he obviously needs to get over this hammy issue first. Jones is overvalued at his current 8th-round ADP.
Colts HC Frank Reich said Sunday that Ryan Grant has "separated" from the pack in the competition for the team's #2 WR job. Chester Rogers has reportedly struggled early in camp, and rookie Deon Cain has "leveled off of late" after a strong start, according to the Indy Star's Zak Keefer. This battle isn't over yet. But if you're taking a shot on a Colts WR late in your draft, Grant looks like your guy for now.
Packers RB Aaron Jones has been suspended 2 games for violating the league's substance abuse policy. This is the result of his arrest last October for marijuana possession. Jones will be allowed to participate in training camp and the preseason but will miss Green Bay's first 2 games against the Bears and Vikings. The suspension gives RB Jamaal Williams a shot to grab the lead role and run with it. RB Ty Montgomery should also see significant action those first 2 games. Depending on how those 2 fare, Jones might struggle to get much playing time when he's reinstated for Week 3. We'll see what happens to his ADP, which is currently sitting in the 8th round, but he now looks like just a later-round flier.
The Jaguars signed Iowa State WR Allen Lazard as an undrafted free agent. Lazard led the Cyclones in catches (56), yards (808) and TDs (6) as a true sophomore in 2015. He set new career highs with a 69-1,018-10 line in 2016 and posted a 71-941-10 this past season. Lazard is big 6’5, 227-pounder with a 38-inch vertical and an 80th percentile wingspan. But he didn’t always play to that size in college and caught just 39.5% of his contested-catch opportunities last year. Lazard also had a 11% career drop rate and doesn’t offer much after the catch. That said, his combination of size and athleticism (75th percentile SPARQ) makes him worth monitoring. He joins a super crowded Jags WR corps that also added rookie D.J. Chark in the 2nd round of the draft.
The Packers added Notre Dame WR Equanimeous St. Brown in the 6th round. This is much later than he was projected to go, but it’s unclear what caused the slide. St. Brown emerged as QB DeShone Kizer’s top target in 2016, leading the Irish with 58 catches, 916 yards and 9 scores. But his numbers tumbled alongside the Notre Dame passing game this past season, with St. Brown finishing with a 33-515-4 line. He’s an intriguing prospect from a size and athleticism perspective: 6’5, 214 pounds with a 4.48-second 40 time and a 63rd percentile SPARQ score. The tape shows a fluid route runner with dangerous after-the-catch ability. But St. Brown doesn’t play to his size, losing far too often in contested situations. He lands in an intriguing spot with an elite QB and an opening at the #3 spot on the WR depth chart. Of course, Green Bay drafted WRs J’Mon Moore and Marquez Valdes-Scantling ahead of St. Brown.
After moving down from 14th, the Packers jumped back up to the 18th pick in the NFL Draft to select Louisville CB Jaire Alexander. The former Cardinal played just 6 games last season while dealing with multiple injuries. The year before, however, he grabbed 5 INTs. Alexander also served as a primary and productive punt returner over his 1st 2 seasons. There's big-play upside here.
The Colts have signed WR Ryan Grant to a 1-year, $5 million deal. It's much less than he was set to make before his deal with the Ravens was voided due to a failed physical, but this contract is a much better proxy for what Grant's actually worth. That said, there's opportunity in Indianapolis, where Grant is currently set to compete with Chester Rogers for #2 WR duties behind T.Y. Hilton. We'll see if the Colts make a significant addition at WR in the draft.
WR Ryan Grant failed his physical with the Ravens, voiding his new contract. Given that Baltimore quickly turned it’s attention to Michael Crabtree and signed him for 3 years, don’t bet on another shot for Grant here. He’s also unlikely to find as friendly a target situation as he appeared to land in earlier this week. We’ll see where Grant ultimately sticks
WR Ryan Grant's 4-year, $29 million deal with Baltimore has been voided due to a failed physical, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter. It might turn out to be a lucky break for the Ravens, who seemingly overpaid for a replacement-level talent. We'll wait for news on Grant's health. Baltimore, meanwhile, is left with WRs John Brown, Breshad Perriman and Chris Moore atop the depth chart.
The Ravens have agreed to a deal with free-agent WR Ryan Grant. NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports that it's a 4-year, $29 million deal with $14.5 million guaranteed -- including a $10 million signing bonus. Grant has looked like a solid player at times, but he has also tallied just 84 receptions and 6 TDs across 4 seasons -- while playing in all 64 possible regular-season games. Still, he could be headed for top-wideout status in Baltimore. Mike Wallace is a free agent. Jeremy Maclin looks like a cut candidate. And Breshad Perriman needs to prove that he's no bust. We'll see how this offense shakes out, but don't chase any pass-catchers too aggressively if you're doing early best-ball fantasy football drafts.
As expected, Panthers WR Devin Funchess is active for today's playoff game against the Saints. He missed Wednesday and Thursday practices before returning to a limited Friday workout because of a shoulder issue. Combine that with Saints CB Marshon Lattimore, and Funchess carries a rough outlook into the Wild Card round. But he's at least available for fantasy football use.
Packers OLB Clay Matthews (hamstring) is active for today's game against the Lions. He's not a strong IDP candidate but helps the team D -- albeit in a spot you shouldn't be using it anyway. OLB Nick Perry is already out with an ankle injury.
The Packers have signed WR Davante Adams to a 4-year extension worth $58 million, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. Adams was set to hit free agency in March but is now locked up in Green Bay through the 2021 season. The 25-year-old has emerged as the Packers' top receiver, scoring 22 TDs over his last 30 games. The extension is good news for his fantasy value, keeping him tied to QB Aaron Rodgers.
Packers RB Aaron Jones (knee) is out for this weekend's game against the Lions. Jamaal Williams will serve as a feature back in a plus matchup vs. the league's 31st-ranked RB defense.
Packers RB Aaron Jones (knee) is "likely out" for Sunday's game against the Lions, HC Mike McCarthy said. That means a feature role for RB Jamaal Williams vs. the league's 31st-ranked RB defense.
Panthers WR Devin Funchess (shoulder) is active for today’s game against the Bucs. He got in just a limited practice on Friday after aggravating that shoulder injury last week. Funchess is a risk/reward WR2 vs. Tampa’s 32nd-ranked WR defense.
NFL Network's Ian Rapoport confirms that Panthers WR Devin Funchess (shoulder) is expected to play against the Bucs today. He's been battling this shoulder injury for a few weeks now and aggravated it in last Sunday's win over the Packers. He got in just 1 limited practice this week. It adds some risk to Funchess' Week 16 profile, but he also has plenty of upside vs. Tampa's 32nd-ranked WR defense.
Packers RB Aaron Jones was knocked out in the 1st half of Saturday's game against the Vikings with a knee injury. It's unclear if this is related to the MCL injury he suffered in mid-November. We'll look for an update.
