The Vikings have hired Gary Kubiak as an "offensive advisor." He was originally reported to be taking Denver's OC job, but that evidently fell through. It's unclear exactly what Kubiak's role will be alongside OC Kevin Stefanski, but he brings 22 seasons of experience as an NFL HC or OC.
The Vikings have ruled LB Eric Kendricks (hamstring) out for Sunday's game against the Bears. Eric Wilson started in his place last week, played 72 of 75 snaps and supplied 6 tackles (5 solo). If that's enough to make him worthwhile in your scoring system, then consider Wilson.
The Vikings have ruled LB Eric Kendricks out for Sunday's game against the Lions because of a hamstring injury. Kendricks' absence enhances the fantasy outlook for OLB Anthony Barr, raising his tackle floor.
The Vikings have fired OC John DeFilippo. He was a hot name this offseason but lasts just 13 games in Minnesota. DeFilippo's offense has underachieved, ranking just 17th in yards and 20th in points. We also heard whispers that he and HC Mike Zimmer weren't on the same page, with Zimmer preferring a run-heavy offense and DeFilippo favoring the pass. We'll see who the Vikings tab as their interim OC, but the change could mean more carries for RB Dalvin Cook going forward.
Update: The Vikings have promoted former QBs coach Kevin Stefanski to interim OC. Stefanski has been with the team since 2006 but has never called plays.
As expected, Vikings MLB Eric Kendricks is active for tonight's game against the Seahawks. He missed most of the practice week with a rib injury, but HC Mike Zimmer said Kendricks would be "fine" for the game.
Vikings MLB Eric Kendricks is questionable for Monday night's game against the Seahawks with a rib injury. He missed practice Thursday and Friday before returning to a limited Saturday workout. The team expects him to play against Seattle, though. HC Mike Zimmer told the Pioneer Press that Kendricks "will be fine." Plan to have Kendricks available for your IDP lineups. We'll confirm his status Monday evening.
Vikings WRs Adam Thielen (low back, calf) and WR Stefon Diggs (ribs) are both off the final Week 11 injury report. Thielen was limited all week, but we’ve heard nothing to suggest that he won’t be a full-go on Sunday night vs. Chicago. Diggs put in a full week of practice.
Vikings WR Adam Thielen (low back, calf) remained limited in Thursday's practice. We have no reason to believe he's in danger of missing Sunday night's game against the Bears, but it does look like he'll be operating at less than 100%.
Vikings OC John DeFilippo called RB Dalvin Cook a "full-go" for Sunday night's game against the Bears. We assumed as much after Cook handled 10 carries and 4 targets back in Week 9 and then had a Week 10 bye to rest that injured hamstring. Chicago ranks 3rd in fantasy points allowed to RBs, but Cook still looks like a solid RB2 in Week 11 fantasy lineups.
Vikings WR Adam Thielen was limited in Wednesday's practice and listed on the injury report with low back and calf issues. It's slightly concerning with Minnesota coming off a bye week, but we've heard nothing to suggest that either ailment is serious. We'll get another update on Thielen tomorrow.
The Vikings have claimed RB Ameer Abdullah off waivers from the Lions. While it's encouraging that Abdullah got snatched up so quickly, this obviously isn't a good landing spot. He'll sit behind Dalvin Cook and Latavius Murray on Minnesota's depth chart. Leave Abdullah on the waiver wire in redraft leagues.
The Lions have released RB Ameer Abdullah. Finally. The former 2nd-round pick has just 1 carry and 2 catches on 11 offensive snaps this season. We'll see where he ends up, although it's probably too late in the year for him to make a fantasy impact.
Vikings S Andrew Sendejo (groin) will miss his 4th straight game today. He's inactive for the clash with the Lions. Lead CB Xavier Rhodes, however, will play through a "questionable" tag for a foot issue.
Vikings RB Dalvin Cook (hamstring) is active for today’s game against the Lions. It’ll be his first action since Week 4. Cook is expected to be on a snap count, with ESPN’s Adam Schefter reporting this morning that Minnesota is hoping to get him "about 20 or so” snaps. That’s about a third of the game. Cook sits in RB4 territory in the Week 9 Rankings. RB Latavius Murray remains the superior fantasy bet.
The Vikings expect RB Dalvin Cook (hamstring) to play Sunday but on a "pitch count," according to ESPN's Adam Schefter. Cook will reportedly get "about 20 or so" snaps. That would obviously cut into Latavius Murray playing time and fantasy upside. But Murray still looks like the Minnesota RB to use. We'll confirm Cook's status at 11:30 a.m. ET, when the early inactives get announced.
The Vikings "plan to play Dalvin Cook on a limited snap count" against the Lions on Sunday, insider Ben Goessling reports. We heard a similar report back in Week 6 before Cook ended up inactive. He's been a limited participant in practice this week, but a final decision on his status probably won't be made until pregame warmups. Cook won't be a recommended fantasy play even if he ends up active. His presence would put a dent in RB Latavius Murray's Week 9 outlook, though.
Vikings RB Dalvin Cook (hamstring) was limited again in Thursday's practice. "Better chance to return to the playing field after their Week 10 bye," ESPN's Adam Caplan tweeted. We'll continue to keep an eye on Cook's progress, but fantasy owners shouldn't be expecting him to play against the Lions on Sunday.
Vikings RB Dalvin Cook (hamstring) was listed as a limited participant in Wednesday's practice. We've seen him put in limited workouts during his latest 4-week absence. And the latest report had him likely to sit out through Minnesota's Week 10 bye. We're not yet expecting Cook to play against the Lions this weekend but will continue to keep an eye on him.
Vikings lead CB Xavier Rhodes (foot) is inactive for tonight's game against the Saints. That can only help the already positive fantasy outlook for Saints WR Michael Thomas. DT Linval Joseph (ankle) is active after missing last week's game. The Minnesota defense will also be without starters S Andrew Sendejo and LB Anthony Barr.
The Vikings have ruled out LB Anthony Barr (hamstring) and S Andrew Sendejo (groin) for Sunday night's game against the Saints. CB Xavier Rhodes (foot) and DT Linval Joseph (ankle) are questionable for the game. None of the 4 would be a strong IDP candidate anyway. But missing Joseph would hurt the run D and losing Rhodes would damage the coverage. Pro Football Focus grades Barr top-9 among off-ball LBs in run D and pass-rushing. Losing him brightens the outlook a bit for the New Orleans run game.
