Dwayne Haskins Fantasy Football News 2019

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports that "all signs" are pointing to QB Case Keenum winning Washington's starting job to open the year, citing chats with multiple sources. That goes along with recent rumors and comes as no big surprise. Keenum looks like he'll offer a steadier hand for Washington wideouts in fantasy football. We'd bet on rookie Dwayne Haskins overtaking him at some point this season, though. Neither QB should be in your fantasy plans unless you play in a 2-QB or superflex league.

When asked this week whether rookie QB Dwayne Haskins is a serious contender to open the season as the starter, HC Jay Gruden said, "He's put enough out there on tape to say he deserves a shot, without a doubt," according to ESPN's John Keim. Gruden went on to talk about the "wow" plays and traits Haskins has already displayed. He also indicated that how well Haskins continues to learn and retains information during the break before training camp will be key. At this point, we'd bet on Haskins opening as the starter. But the situation will certainly be worth watching. He doesn't look like much of a 2019 redraft factor, but Haskins should increase the upside for Washington pass-catchers in fantasy football over what Case Keenum or Colt McCoy would provide.

The Redskins nabbed Ohio State QB Dwayne Haskins with the 15th overall pick of the 2019 NFL Draft. Haskins was just a 1-year starter at Ohio State … but it was a super impressive year. He completed 70% of his passes and set Big Ten records with 4,831 yards and 50 TDs. Haskins did a lot of damage on short and intermediate throws — his 9.1 average depth of target ranked 42nd in this draft class, per Pro Football Focus — but he also finished with the 8th best passer rating on throws 20+ yards downfield. Haskins’ 77.1% adjusted completion rate was 5th best in the class. He’s not going to boost his fantasy value with his legs, but Haskins has the size (6’3, 231 lbs.) and arm to stick as a long-term NFL starter. Despite his relative inexperience, Haskins has a good shot to win Washington’s Week 1 starting job over Case Keenum and Colt McCoy.
