The Chargers have named Brandon Staley their new HC. The 38-year-old has been a fast riser, going from a LBs coach in Chicago and Denver to Rams defensive coordinator to Chargers HC in just 5 years. Staley's 2020 Rams defense was better than Wade Phillips' 2019 unit in points allowed, total yards allowed, yards per play allowed and Football Outsiders' DVOA. This at least looks like a good hire for the Chargers defense. We'll see who joins Staley to run the offense.
The Chargers have fired HC Anthony Lynn. He cost his team multiple chances to win this season with poor in-game management. Lynn finishes his 4-year run with the Chargers with a 33-31 record but went just 12-20 over the past 2 seasons. Whoever takes over this team will be working with a strong core in QB Justin Herbert, RB Austin Ekeler and WR Keenan Allen -- plus a talented defense.
Chargers WR Keenan Allen has been placed on the COVID list. He was already expected to miss Sunday's finale with his hamstring injury, but now he's definitely out for that one. Allen finishes the 2020 campaign with a 100-992-8 line. It snaps his 3-year streak of 1,100+ yards but marks his 3rd 100+ catch season among the last 4. Mike Williams, Jalen Guyton and Tyron Johnson will close out the season as the Chargers' top 3 WRs.
Chargers WR Keenan Allen (hamstring) is not expected to play vs. the Chiefs this weekend, according to The Athletic's Daniel Popper. Allen has been battling this hamstring for a few weeks and has no reason to rush back for a meaningless finale. Mike Williams, Jalen Guyton and Tyron Johnson will close out the season as the Chargers' top 3 WRs.
Chargers WR Keenan Allen (hamstring) is inactive for today’s game against the Broncos. That leaves Mike Williams, Tyron Johnson and Jalen Guyton as QB Justin Herbert’s top 3 WRs today. L.A. is also without TE Hunter Henry.
Chargers WR Keenan Allen (hamstring) remains a game-time decision for today's tilt with the Broncos, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. Rapoport adds that Allen is in a "similar situation" to last week, when he ended up playing just 36% of the offensive snaps and drawing 3 targets. He's a risky Week 16 fantasy play at seemingly far less than 100%.
Update: ESPN's Adam Schefter reports that Allen is not expected to play today. We'll continue to look for updates on the situation, but we won't get the Chargers' inactives until around 2:30 pm ET.
Chargers WR Keenan Allen (hamstring) is listed as questionable for this weekend’s game vs. the Broncos. He only got in a limited practice on Friday. HC Anthony Lynn labeled Allen a game-time decision earlier in the week. We’ll continue to look for updates ahead of this 4:05 pm ET kickoff, but it’s safe to assume that Allen will be at less than 100% if he suits up. That makes him a risky fantasy play after he saw just 3 targets on a 36% snap share last week.
Chargers HC Anthony Lynn on Thursday labeled WR Keenan Allen (hamstring) a game-time decision for this weekend's tilt vs. the Broncos. Allen still has a few days to rest up -- but the takeaway here is that he's unlikely to be at 100% by Sunday. That makes him a risky fantasy play after drawing just 3 targets on a 36% snap share last week. With Allen banged up and TE Hunter Henry out, WR Mike Williams is looking like a better and better Week 16 start.
Chargers WR Keenan Allen (hamstring) did not practice on Wednesday. He tried to battle through this injury last Thursday night but was limited to 36% of the snaps and 3 targets. Allen will be tough to trust in Week 16 fantasy lineups if he doesn't do more in practice over the next 2 days.
Chargers WRs Keenan Allen (hamstring) and Mike Williams (back) are active for tonight's game against the Raiders. Williams is a surprise after ESPN's Adam Schefter reported earlier today that he wasn't expected to play. We'd still try not to use him in fantasy lineups. Allen was reportedly a game-time decision and figures to be operating at less than 100% tonight. Consider him more of a risk/reward WR2 than his usual WR1 status. Allen and Williams' presence does make QB Justin Herbert a more attractive fantasy play.
Update: ESPN's Adam Schefter reports that Allen and Williams will both be on a "rep count" tonight.
ESPN's Adam Schefter reports that the Chargers are "concerned" WR Keenan Allen (hamstring) won't be able to play vs. the Raiders tonight. Schefter adds that Allen is "likely to be limited" if he does suit up. We'll get the Chargers' inactives around 7 pm ET tonight. Allen will obviously come with a lower ceiling and floor if he ends up playing. WRs Tyron Johnson and Jalen Guyton figure to get more playing time with Allen banged up and Mike Williams not expected to play. TE Hunter Henry and RB Austin Ekeler should also get target boosts. Downgrade QB Justin Herbert with these WR injuries.
