The Jets traded QB Sam Darnold to the Panthers in exchange for a 2021 6th-round pick and 2nd and 4th-rounders next year. NFL Network's Ian Rapoport hears that Carolina was the "sole suitor" for Darnold -- hence the relatively cheap price tag. Darnold, of course, has been largely disappointing since going 3rd overall in 2018, completing 59.8% of his passes, averaging 6.6 yards per attempt and tossing 39 INTs vs. 45 TDs. He's gotten little help from his coaches or supporting cast. But Darnold has not fared well in Pro Football Focus' passing grades, ranking 30th, 27th and 35th over the past 3 seasons. He's a fine gamble for the Panthers to make, but Darnold certainly isn't a lock to emerge as the team's long-term starter. In fact, he'll need to beat out QB Teddy Bridgewater for the 2021 starting job -- although we do consider Darnold the favorite there. The Jets, meanwhile, are widely expected to take BYU QB Zach Wilson with the 2nd overall pick later this month.
Panthers WRs D.J. Moore and Curtis Samuel are active for tonight's game against the Packers. Moore was activated from the COVID list this week and should be ready for his usual role. Samuel's hamstring tightened up on him in Thursday's practice, so he comes with elevated risk in fantasy lineups.
Panthers WR D.J. Moore was activated from the COVID list this week and is set to return for Saturday night’s game against the Packers. He racked up 27 targets over his last 3 games and is safe to get back into Week 15 fantasy lineups.
Panthers WR D.J. Moore remains on the COVID list as of Friday afternoon and isn't expected to play vs. the Broncos on Sunday, ESPN's David Newton reports. Moore has averaged 7.4 targets per game this season, so his absence frees up a bunch of opportunity for WRs Robby Anderson and Curtis Samuel.
NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports that Panthers WR D.J. Moore has COVID. We don't know exactly when Moore tested positive, but consider him a long shot to play against the Broncos this weekend. WR Curtis Samuel, meanwhile, landed on the COVID list as a "close contact" but hasn't tested positive as of now. If he can avoid a positive test, he should be cleared to face Denver.
Panthers WR D.J. Moore has been placed on the COVID list. It's unclear if he tested positive for the virus or was just a close contact of someone who did. Moore is also recovering from his Week 12 ankle injury, so his status for Sunday's game against the Broncos is murky at best.
Panthers HC Matt Rhule said Monday that X-rays on WR D.J. Moore's ankle came back clean. Rhule added that Moore has a shot to be able to play coming out of Carolina's Week 13 bye. We'll keep an eye on him when the Panthers return to work next week.
Panthers WR D.J. Moore injured his right leg late in the 4th quarter of Sunday's game in Minnesota. We'll update his status when we know more.
Update: Moore's injury is to his ankle, the team announced.
Panthers QB Teddy Bridgewater (knee) was a full participant in Wednesday's practice, putting him on track to return for this weekend's game against the Vikings. He'll be just a mid-range QB2 for that one. But, despite QB P.J. Walker's solid Week 11, Bridgewater should still be considered an upgrade for Carolina's offense.
Panthers QB Teddy Bridgewater (knee) is active for today’s game against the Lions. QBs P.J. Walker and Will Grier are also both active, which might suggest some concern about Bridgewater’s ability to make it through the game. We’d avoid him in Week 11 fantasy lineups, but his availability is good news for WRs Robby Anderson and D.J. Moore.
Panthers QB Teddy Bridgewater (knee) is now "unlikely" to play against the Lions on Sunday, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. It sounds like the start of the practice week hasn't gone too well for Teddy. We're expecting QB P.J. Walker to get the start for Carolina, although there was a report from ESPN that Walker and QB Will Grier could split snaps. It's a situation to avoid in Week 11 fantasy lineups. WRs Robby Anderson, D.J. Moore and Curtis Samuel need to be downgraded.
The forecast for tonight's Falcons-Panthers game calls for a 40% chance of rain with winds of 10-20 mph and gusts up to 25 mph. That's not quite enough wind for us to adjust our projections for this game. But you might use the weather as a tie-breaker if deciding between 2 similarly ranked players.
Panthers WR Curtis Samuel (knee) is inactive for today’s game against the Bears. That frees up a few extra targets for Robby Anderson, D.J. Moore and Mike Davis.
Panthers WR Curtis Samuel (knee) is listed as questionable for Sunday’s game against the Bears. Hopefully he wasn’t part of your Week 6 plans — but Samuel’s absence would free up a few extra targets for WR Robby Anderson, WR D.J. Moore and RB Mike Davis.
The Panthers have agreed to a 2-year deal with WR Robby Anderson, according to Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News. Anderson -- who played under new HC Matt Rhule at Temple -- figures to start opposite D.J. Moore in Carolina's renovated offense. Curtis Samuel, meanwhile, could fit in the slot. Although Samuel spent a lot of time running downfield routes last season, he was a short-range playmaker as a RB/WR in college. He doesn't look like a top-36 fantasy WR heading into the season but has some upside. We'll be interested to see how the offense shakes out under Rhule and OC Joe Brady. Anderson leaves behind 96 targets (an 18.4% share) for the Jets to disperse.
The Panthers have named Joe Brady their new OC. It's been a rapid rise for the 30-year-old, who spent 2017 and 2018 as an offensive assistant under Sean Payton in New Orleans and this past year as LSU's passing game coordinator. Brady won the 2019 Broyles Award as the top assistant coach in college football and was given a lot of credit for QB Joe Burrow's massive 5,671-yard, 60-TD campaign. It's an exciting -- albeit risky -- hire by the Panthers.
The Panthers are hiring Matt Rhule as their new HC, Yahoo Sports' Pete Thamel reports. Rhule has been a hot name in coaching circles after he led a 1-11 Baylor team in his first season to a combined 18-9 record over the past 2 years. He spent 4 seasons as Temple's HC prior to that and also has 1 year of experience as the Giants' assistant offensive line coach under Tom Coughlin. Rhule's Baylor squads ranked 25th, 19th and 43rd in the nation in passing yards per game.
Panthers WR D.J. Moore (concussion) is out for Sunday's finale against the Saints. That leaves Carolina with Curtis Samuel, Jarius Wright and Chris Hogan atop the depth chart. We'd still try to avoid all 3 guys with Will Grier under center.
