Broncos WR Cody Latimer left Saturday night's preseason game with a knee injury and didn't return. The Denver Post reports that he "remained upright and walking around on the sidelines." It doesn't sound too serious, but we'll keep an eye out for further updates. Latimer has a path to the #3 WR role if healthy, albeit in an offense with a shaky QB outlook.

Update: Latimer will have an MRI Sunday but told The Denver Post that he expects to be ready for Week 1. HC Gary Kubiak added that the team doesn't think it's "serious."

Broncos WR Cody Latimer told The Denver Post that he's feeling good physically heading into his 3rd season after taking good care of his body in the offseason. As for the mental side, the former 2nd-round pick also says he has gained confidence. “I was very hesitant,” he said of his first two NFL seasons. “Was worried about what everybody thought — was Peyton (Manning) going to be mad, was coach going to be mad. I was very nervous out there. Going out here now, especially in my third year, I’m confident in myself. I know what I can do. I just go out there and make plays.” That can certainly only help a player who has caught just 8 total passes over his 1st 2 seasons. Latimer will have to continue proving himself before fantasy football owners can expect any relevance. But WR Bennie Fowler will now miss at least a few weeks after suffering an elbow fracture, according to the Post, which should leave Latimer in the lead for the #3 role. That's not an exciting spot in an offense with Mark Sanchez and Trevor Siemian competing to start at QB. But Latimer's a no-risk shot at the end of your draft with plenty of physical ability.

The Broncos remain happy with 2nd-year WR Cody Latimer, according to ESPN.com's Jeff Legwold, but HC Gary Kubiak would like to see a bit more over the final 2 preseason weeks. "You just want to see him making plays," Kubiak said this week. "He's a hard worker. He does the right thing. He's in the right place, but it's time for him to start making plays on the ball, coming up with big plays. The good news with him is he has worked as basically a starter from OTAs through [training] camp and everything. Everything's in place for Cody to grow up and have a big year. I like the way he works, [he] just needs to keep coming." Emmanuel Sanders' hamstring issues have afforded extra starter reps and present potential opportunity if they recur. We'll be quite interested to see if Latimer can step up. He's an intriguing shot to take in the double-digit rounds of your fantasy football draft.

"I think it’s time for him to make a big jump, not just a little jump." That's what Broncos HC Gary Kubiak told the team website about 2nd-year WR Cody Latimer this week. The 2014 second-round pick plans to join Peyton Manning next week for his annual workouts at Duke University to work on timing and chemistry. Kubiak said he saw "a lot of flashes" in practice from Latimer in his rookie season -- which Kubiak spent as Baltimore's OC -- and that the young wideout has already displayed "a lot of skill." Latimer will be the #3 WR in Denver, likely lining up outside in 3-WR sets with Emmanuel Sanders moving to the slot. Kubiak's teams have historically not run a ton of multiple-WR sets, but he's probably now working with the most talented trio of wideouts that he's had at any point. A smart offensive coach isn't going to keep his biggest playmakers on the sideline just so that he can get as many TEs on the field as possible. That said, Latimer's role will cap his fantasy upside and certainly limit his week-to-week consistency. He'll make for an intriguing pick in the double-digit rounds of 2015 redraft leagues. Any earlier, though, and you'll likely be overpaying.

Broncos rookie WR Cody Latimer has played just 16 snaps this season and made 1 catch.  But QB Peyton Manning believes Latimer is ready if called upon.  "I think he certainly has taken advantage of his time," Manning said.  "He’s a competitive guy and I think he’s improved throughout the season.  I certainly think if his name and number was called, I think he’d go in there and answer the bell for us.”  If WR Emmanuel Sanders (concussion) isn't cleared in time for Sunday's game against the Dolphins, Latimer would likely get some action.  He'd only be a cheap flier in daily games, but it'd be nice to see the rookie build some momentum heading into 2015.  With WR Wes Welker unlikely to be back next season, Latimer has a good chance to claim the #3 job.  He's a strong hold in dynasty leagues.
