QB Colin Kaepernick has opted out of his contract and is now a free agent, ESPN's Adam Schefter reports. Kaep is passing on a $16.9 million 2017 salary and betting on himself. We'll see if it pays off. The Broncos were reportedly interested in Kaepernick last offseason and still have question marks at QB. The Jets are another potential suitor. And a return to San Francisco might still be on the table. Considering the state of the QB position around the league, Kaep actually has a pretty good shot to get another chance as a starter this season.
49ers QB Colin Kaepernick struggled for the 2nd straight week, mustering only 133 yards and 1 TD. His day started strong with a short-range TD pass to Carlos Hyde, yet he proved sporadic after the opening drive. He avoided a turnover but averaged just 5.1 YPA on 15 of 26 passing vs. the Jets’ underwhelming secondary. Kaepernick added only 23 yards on 3 carries. He won't be a reccomended QB1 next week at Atlanta.
49ers OC Curtis Modkins confirmed on Tuesday that QB Colin Kaepernick will start against the Jets this weekend. Kaep was yanked this past Sunday after completing just 1 of 5 passes and taking 5 sacks. He'd finished as a top 10 fantasy QB in 4 straight weeks prior to that, setting him up as the ultimate risk/reward Week 14 fantasy play.
49ers HC Chip Kelly said after Sunday's game against the Bears that QB Colin Kaepernick's benching is "not anything permanent." Kaep took 5 sacks in the loss and completed just 1 of 5 passes for 4 yards. QB Blaine Gabbert wasn't much better, going 4-of-10 for 35 yards with 1 sack. Kaepernick, of course, was a fantasy stud over the previous 6 games. He'll be tough to trust in Week 14, but there remains QB1 upside here.
49ers QB Colin Kaepernick was benched in 2nd half of Sunday's game in Chicago. He had completed just 1 of 5 pass attempts for 4 yards -- and taken 5 sacks. The 'Niners had negative 21 net passing yards when Kaep exited. He's been replaced by QB Blaine Gabbert.
