ESPN's Rob Demovsky believes the Packers might be ready to shift from a committee backfield to the "Jamaal Williams Show." Williams has run as Green Bay's clear lead back in the preseason so far. "He's really poised to have a big year," HC Mike McCarthy said this week. "Clearly without playing a game yet, I think we'll be talking about him at the end of the season as a second-year player that's made the jump ... Jamaal was a heckuva player last year for us as a rookie, and now he's just so comfortable. He's so consistent, and like most rookies that go through an offseason, he's had a chance to catch his breath." Ty Montgomery still figures to steal some passing-game work. And we'll see what Aaron Jones does after his 2-game suspension. But Williams is clearly the Packers RB to own in fantasy football right now -- especially with an ADP sitting in Round 8.

Packers RB Jamaal Williams returned to practice on Tuesday. He ended up missing just 4 days with his sprained ankle. Williams remains in line to open the season as Green Bay's lead back and is a fine value at his 8th-round price tag.

Packers RB Jamaal Williams is "fine" after leaving Thursday night's preseason game with an ankle injury, according to NFL Network's Tom Pelissero. We'll see exactly how long he's sidelined, but it doesn't sound like this will impact Williams' Week 1 role. We're not moving him in the RB rankings.

Packers RB Jamaal Williams limped off the field during Thursday night's preseason game agains the Steelers with an ankle injury. We'll look for an update on the severity. Williams has been in the driver's seat for Green Bay's starting job for at least the first 2 weeks of the season with RB Aaron Jones suspended. If this ankle injury gets in the way, the Packers would be left with Ty Montgomery atop the depth chart.

Packers RB Jamaal Williams (knee) was a full participant in Wednesday's practice. He's obviously on track to play against the Cowboys this weekend, taking the air out of RB Aaron Jones' balloon. Williams has been running ahead of Jones all year and would likely lead a committee attack if RB Ty Montgomery (ribs) can't play.

Injury Predictor

Williams enjoyed a clean rookie year that found him more work than the Packers intended. After 15 total touches through the 1st 8 games, Williams tallied 17.8 carries and 2.6 receptions per game over the 2nd half of the season. His only ding was a Week 4 knee issue that didn't even land him on the Week 5 injury report. College proved a bit more challenging, including a serious 2014 knee injury that kept him out the following season. After his return, Williams lost another 3 games to a recurrent ankle injury as a senior. He's likely in for significantly less work in 2018 (vs. last year), with Ty Montgomery and Aaron Jones back healthy.
