Dolphins HC Adam Gase said he'd ideally like to get RB Kenyan Drake "anywhere from 15-20 carries and 6-8 targets" per game. Even the low end of those ranges would put Drake around 300 total touches. The actual numbers are less important than the fact that it sounds like Gase is ready to make Drake the clear lead back. ESPN's Cameron Wolfe expects RB Frank Gore to mix in in short-yardage and goal-line situations. That'd ding Drake's TD upside. But 15-20 touches per game would give him a shot at RB1 production. He's looked excellent this preseason, averaging 6.8 yards per carry and 9.4 yards per catch.

Dolphins OC Clyde Christensen confirmed on Thursday that it'll be a committee backfield with Kenyan Drake and Damien Williams going forward. We're guessing that Drake will get the 1st crack at lead ball-carrying duties after Miami spent a 3rd-round pick on him last year. But Williams will be involved, especially in the passing game. Neither guy is more than a RB3 or flex in Week 9 fantasy lineups.

Dolphins RB Kenyan Drake cleared the league concussion protocol Tuesday, his 2nd straight day back on the practice field. We'll watch for any setbacks, but Drake's fine to continue treating as you have been in fantasy football drafts.

Dolphins RB Kenyan Drake is in the concussion protocol. He took a shot while running a pass pattern in practice on Monday. Prior to the injury, Drake was competing with Damien Williams for Miami’s #2 role.

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport says the Dolphins are "treating rookie RB Kenyan Drake as the starter today." That's a strange way to word it and comes as a surprise after most pegged Jay Ajayi to draw the start. Miami's coaching staff has obviously soured on last year's 5th-round pick, though. Expect multiple RBs to get on the field for the Fins today -- including Ajayi, Damien Williams and/or Isaiah Pead -- but Drake now looks like the best fantasy bet.

Injury Predictor

Drake endured an injury-riddled college career, including 9 games lost to a broken and dislocated ankle in 2014, 2 more lost to a right arm fracture in 2015 and a concussion (which didn't claim any games). His NFL stint has been comparatively quiet, though Drake did lose 3 weeks of 2016 training camp to a hamstring strain and a week of 2017 camp to a concussion. He has also tallied just 166 total rushing attempts through 2 seasons. Drake figures to see much more work in his 3rd season after emerging as Miami's lead back following the Jay Ajayi trade. Can he hold up?
