Dolphins TE Mike Gesicki has failed to take a step forward in training camp, according to the Miami Herald's Armando Salguero. "Gesicki has neither become a consistent physical mismatch against safeties or corners or shown superior quickness and speed against linebackers," Gesicki writes, adding that Nick O'Leary has been the team's best pass-catching TE. We'll see if Gesicki can get going in the 2nd and 3rd preseason games. For now, though, he's not worth drafting in standard-sized redraft leagues.

Dolphins TE Mike Gesicki has quickly developed a solid rapport with QB Ryan Tannehill. "I think him taking so many reps over spring and then minicamp’s been good for him. He’s playing fast. He’s not thinking," HC Adam Gase said of his rookie. "I like the way they (Gesicki and Tannehill) are working together to make plays.” Gesicki needs tons of work as a blocker -- he's struggled in that facet in camp -- but is a ready-made red zone weapon at 6'6 with a 41.5-inch vertical. Don't bank on him as an every-week fantasy starter this year. But he could emerge as a TD-dependent streamer.

The Dolphins selected Penn State TE Mike Gesicki with the 42nd overall pick of the 2018 NFL Draft. The 22-year-old served as 1 of the Nittany Lions’ top pass-catchers the past 2 years, totaling 105 receptions, 1,242 yards and 14 TDs. Gesicki is a freak athlete, testing in the 92nd percentile or better in 40-yard dash, vertical, broad, 3-cone, 20-yard shuttle and 60-yard shuttle. The 6’6, 247-pounder registered a SPARQ score in the 99th percentile of all TEs. Unfortunately, we don’t think Gesicki plays as athletically as he tested. And he’s a pathetic blocker. On the plus side, he lands in an excellent spot. Miami’s TE room consists of A.J. Derby, MarQueis Gray, Thomas Duarte and Gavin Escobar. Gesicki should lead the group in targets this season -- although he still shouldn't be drafted as more than a TE2.
