Colts RB Robert Turbin has been suspended 4 games for violating the NFL's performance-enhancing drug policy. The 7-year vet ran with the starters this spring and drew some positive buzz. But he owns a career 3.8 yards-per-carry average and faces a bunch of backfield competition from Marlon Mack, Nyheim Hines and Jordan Wilkins. Turbin wasn't a great bet for fantasy value even before this 4-game ban. His roster spot might now be in jeopardy.

Marlon Mack, Nyheim Hines and Jordan Wilkins have been garnering the fantasy attention in the Colts backfield. But insider Stephen Holder warns not to rule out Robert Turbin. "If there’s one thing this offseason has shown, it’s that Turbin seems to have an important place on this football team," Holder writes. Turbin has been getting a bunch of 1st-team snaps this spring. But we wouldn't consider that a surprise considering Mack is sidelined after shoulder surgery and Hines and Wilkins are rookies. Still, HC Frank Reich talked up Turbin's "size and power and strength" this week. Holder believes Turbin is in line to play a short-yardage, goal-line role in what will be a full-blown committee backfield. It'll certainly be a situation to monitor when training camp opens, but we're not ready to call Turbin an option in fantasy drafts.

Colts RB Robert Turbin is expected to miss the rest of the season with the arm injury he suffered in Monday night's loss to the Titans, HC Chuck Pagano said Tuesday. Turbin was averaging just 3.8 carries and 1.8 targets per game, so the fantasy impact here isn't huge. Expect most of his work to go to RB Frank Gore. We'll see if the Colts follow through on their plan to get RB Marlon Mack more involved going forward.

Robert Turbin is the Colts' "likely #2 back," according to the Indy Star's Stephen Holder. Rookie RB Josh Ferguson was hyped up during the spring but has busted in preseason action, averaging just .7 yards per carry and struggling in pass protection. Turbin hasn't been much better -- 1.8 yards per carry -- but at least has experience in a backup role. RB Jordan Todman also remains in the mix. “This game and the next game are going to be very important to the rest of those guys behind (Frank Gore),” HC Chuck Pagano said of the final 2 preseason contests. “All those guys are going to get some reps and somebody’s got to start to emerge.” The fantasy takeaway: Don't bother handcuffing Gore.

Colts RB Robert Turbin was cited for marijuana possession during a traffic stop earlier this month, according to the Salt Lake Tribune. Police reportedly found a marijuana cigarette butt in the car's center console but said Turbin did not seem impaired and let him drive away with the citation. It doesn't seem like a big legal issue, but any drug-related offense carries the threat of league discipline. Missing even a game might hurt Turbin's status in a muddled backfield behind starter Frank Gore. We'll see if this goes anywhere.
